2002 BF90A 25" extra long shaft four stroke 90 HP Honda, question is whether this length shaft is even usable on a 1983 Montauk....I think its too long but I will defer to the opinions of our resident gearheads....

Thanks in advance for any help or info you can provide....

You could use a jack plate to raise it 5 inches or more, but it would be avery poor choice for a Montauk.

The 2002 Honda 90 is a very heavy motor to start with and will upset the balance of the Montauk. A 25" shaft version of it one a bracket will only make matters worse.

I would pass.

Unfortunately Tom your thoughts are in line with my own, but sometimes you see a deal available and get tempted. They are, I believe, more than double the weight of a Yamaha 2 stroke 90, which appears to be the natural option for a montauk if your goals are simplicity and affordability.

Thanks for the quick response...
