That's a Katama. For those who are confused about transom weight...look at athe weight on that puppy and she sits just fine in the water. Has to be close to 500lbs with kicker, mount, and 4Stroke engine back there. |

Modified Katama - Tom W Clark outlined this in another recent thread featuring this boat. Commercial rub rail. Black decals. Windscreen lacks windows. I noticed 2 things: Nice rig though. Makes me really want to put a commercial rub rail on my Montauk. |

John, You were holding out on us with these photos yesterday: http://continuouswave.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/017396.html These more revealing photos tell a different tale. That boat was not a Katama originally. It appears to be a post mid-90s hull. Perhaps it started life as a Standard 17 or an Alert model. The view of the transom shows the give-away about its age: The stern corners are rounded to accommodate the rub rail bending around it. Whaler modified the mold of the 16'-7" hull in 1997 or 1998 by filling in the corner of the mold to remove the square corner and allow the rub rail (along with the extrusion on the transom notch) to cover what used to be called the "green line". The console and seat are from a Minot or Katama built earlier than 1973. |

HA! I was just posting about exactly what Tom noticed. I'd say that's a later 17' hull with a Minot or Katama interior. Interesting. - Chris |

A closer examination of the photos suggests the boat was an Alert model. Both the Standard and Alert models were sold as bare hulls with the rub rail and bow and stern eyes installed but all other components including rails, were optional. I can see no evidence of rails having ever been installed on this boat. The decals and interior cleats are consistent with an Alert 17 produced in the early 2000s. |

Did anyone else notice that Whaler has a different main engine in the pictures from today and yesterday? At first I thought it was a different boat, but then I looked at the registration number. I take it the older pictures are of it with the Mercury and I can speculate that the owner traded the carbureted Mercury for a newer EFI Yamaha. - Chris |

Looks like that was the last time it was cleaned. |

Chris, I am sure the owner realized he had way too much weight on his transom ;-) The state tabs indicate the photo of this boat with the Mercury 90 was taken in 2006. The photo of it with the Yamaha was taken in 2008. |

Haha, I bet he did Tom. Good observation of the state tabs. We don't have annual tabs here in Nova Scotia. The boat would certainly be lighter in the back now with the big Yamaha's 369 lbs vs. the Mercury's 386 lbs plus the Yamaha F6 and bracket. - Chris |

The boat also appears to belong to Camp Nor'Wester on Johns Island. It is probably used as a "pickup truck" to ferry people and supplies between Roche Harbor on San Juan Island and the camp. |

Oh, the bracket is still there in the more recient picture. Wonder if we can pick this boat apart any more? |

Hey, it is the same boat! Good call on the numbers. I knew I had taken pictures of a "canvas windsheild" before. Well anyhow, it has been hanging around Roche for a couple of years on the main dock. John |

Import some manatees to clean the lettuce off the hull. No wonder he repowered, probably thought the engine was going bad. |

Take a look at the reflection of the bow in the water-- can you see the smirk? http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d137/jmartin-/DSCN0019-1.jpg |
