I have recently obtained a brunswick boat with an old Johnson 75 Super Sea Horse outboard motor on it. The model number is V4SL 125 and the serial number is 2141957. I was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about it. It has a distributor on it and its belt driven. I know its about a 1950-1960, but I'm not totally sure what year exactly. It has a magneto ignition coil that I pulled out to check if it was good and it tested fine, but the magneto coil was only used in motors between 1952-1967. I was going to sell it; It still runs and its got a new lower unit on it, I just don't know a great deal about the motor and I was wondering if anybody could help to inform me. |

All I know it`s a V-4 and the first of these motors was built in 1958. For accurate info contact the Antique Outboard Motor Club. rich/Binkie |

CONTINUOUSWAVE does not try to collect and organize information about really old outboard motors. We have enough to do with really old Boston Whaler boats. We do have some anecdotal information, but no real collection or organization. I think Richard's suggestion (to consult another website whose focus is older outboard motors) is a good one. |

sages, why don`t you keep that motor, get it running and join the club(AOMCI) and have some fun. Maybe you can find a 16' Whaler from the '60's to hang it on. Here is a picture of my 13' Whaler with my '58 Evinrude Lark 35hp, I used to run at the AOMCI meets. http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c191/floridaboy2053/boats2/132.jpg |

Thanks for the tidbit about the standard mounting bracket dimensions. I will add that to the FAQ on that topic. |
