[Reports sighting a] 13-footer with Desert Tan interior, sink-style splashwell, smirked bow. "Big deal," you should say. But it also had the 1972-and-older cut transom. Must have been a 1972, the year Desert Tan started, but before they started the run of uncut transoms. Weird, huh?

Mitigating circumstance: I am on the French Riviera, walking around the harbor, looking at boats. Could the "export" versions of Boston Whaler boats developed along a different timeline, where certain combinations of characteristics were carried over longer?

I think the only reply would have to be: Ou-la-la!

Sink-style splashwell? I think you have the very rare European model with the bidet option.

I think Peter has just coined a new phrase--"sink style splashwell." I like it. It is very descriptive of the splash well arrangement on the newer 13-footer.

I live in Santa Barbara, CA, parfois appelée la Riviera américaine.

I do not have any French heritage either, though I was exposed to the language from an early age. I am Greek on my mother's side and anglo, [German-English], on my father's side. The Greek side of my family were immigrants, who learned French in Greece, and then learned English from French majoring college students who taught them english by using french.

In any event, the wife and I frequently visit Paris and the Cote D'azur because we are airline employees and can fly for free, and we love visiting. The next time we are in the south of France, I will bring a camera and take some snaps of whalers.

Bon,
C'est fait on compte sur toi..
Je suis ne et a vecu la plus grande partie de ma vie dans la culture Francofonne Quebequoise.
C'est quand meme un peu inusite de t'entendre parler comme ceci;
Dans un mode d'expression tel que celui ci..
Sur le vif;
J'ai tou juste appris..
Of the Air France #447 from Rio De Janiero en route to Paris having gone down in the Atlantic..
Over two hundred people were on that flight.
Research planes were sent but no news as of yet.

A) It could be a desert tan model that was professionally cut.

B) It could be an ole blue that was professionally painted or gelled.

C) It could be what you have described but it would be the first and probably only so see A or B.

I'm rather sure to know what it is.

It should be a rare, later (say 1975/1977) 13' special ordered by the European importer with the transom cut to 15" upon special request of European customers with easier-to-find 15" shaft outboards on hand.

How do I know?
I have a 11/1976 like the one you've mentioned, stenciled number 2B8674

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v380/Telecaster65/ 1977%20Whaler%2013%20Restoration/DSC01373.jpg

and a 15" transom with wrap-around splashwell

I've asked Chuck Bennet and he told me the story of European special small run of boats...
