Are there any restrictions on inflatable PFD's as carry-on or checked luggage for airline travel? I assume the CO2 cartridges don't pose any threat, and they have inflatable life jackets already on board. And I would like to have my PFD where I am going. |

http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/ permitted-prohibited-items.shtm If CO2 cartridge air guns are allowed in checked luggage with the cartridge removed, I would imagine that inflatable vests are allowed in checked luggage. For security, I would e-mail TSA and keep a copy of that e-mail response with you when you travel. Dave |

Straight From www.delta.com Delta will accept one self-inflating life jacket that contains no more than two small carbon dioxide cylinders plus no more than two spare cylinders as checked or carry-on baggage. |

We had the cylinder confiscated when we tried to carry on a Mustang inflatable PFD. This was early in the baggage scanning era, so the rules may be different now. |

Interesting. Essentially EVERY airline (I've never heard of an exception) requires SCUBA tanks to not only be empty, but to have the valve removed from the cylinder. Chuck |
