Here are some pictures from our Charleston, SC to Beaufort, SC trip. According to my GPS, the trip down was 72 miles, the return trip was 70 miles. I burned about 12 gal of fuel each way for about 6 mpg with 4 adults plus overnight gear.

I was suprised by the tide down there compared to the Chesapeake area. The tide difference can be up to 7 feet with current flows in some areas over 5 mph. As I was approaching the Wappo cut from the Stono River, I was running at about 1800 rpm and 5.5 mph. When I entered the Wappo Creek cut my GPS read 11.5 mph at the same rpm.

Later in the week NOAA was issuing flood warnings due to unusually high "spring" tides. While driving around Charleston, we frequently encountered flooded roads, parking lots, etc. when the tide was high.

Overall, the place is wonderful. It seemed at every turn we encountered another remarkable place or site.

Great Photos!, Scott and Mary

I like how you kept them all in order. Maggie especially likes the Charleston shots.

I am so ready for another boat trip. We went to the lake yesterday. The heat in Atlanta has been incredible. Some rain would be nice at this point. It was fun but a little tame (no adventure).

Sapple:

Great photos.

Charleston, Kiawah Island, Beaufort, Hilton Head Island, and Savannah are wonderful places to visit.

We have never taken our Whaler to SC/GA, your pictures may be the motivation required.

Thanks.

Nushlie

What time were y'all at Red's/RB's? I was there later the same day.

That looks like a great time! Do you know what happened to the forward mast of that tall ship?

SC Joe, we actually ended up a Red's a few times because we kept out boat and lodged at the Charleston Harbor Marina and Resort so it was a convenient location. We ate there on Friday afternoon and Monday afternoon. I was wondering if you were the fellow that rafted next to my boat at Red's but figured, no way, because his boat was a ProLine. One of my favorite discoveries was when we did a day trip north up the ICW and went out Caper's inlet. That sand bar that seemed to extend a mile or so out into the ocean gave the feel like we were in the tropics. We anchored off shore there and watched the waves break over the bar for an hour or so.

Mobjack, all week while we were there, tall ships were entering Charleston Harbor for the tall ships festival that was scheduled for the weekend. Although we missed the festival, we saw many ships roll in in the days before the festival. That particular one came in from Bermuda and apparently got hit by a bad storm. According to some accounts it was high winds, according to others it was lightning that broke the mast. One night we slowly idled along side that boat and many of its crew came to the side and waved and snapped pictures at us while we did the same.

BTW, as a result of your help in our email correspondance, we explored Mobjack Bay a few weeks ago. It was beautiful. We put in at the Ware river, went all the way out into the Chesapeak, then up the east, then North rivers. Thanks for your assistance.

CORRECTION: Mojack, I confused you with Mobjack. Sorry about the mixup.

Thanks Sapple! I saw the name Mobjack one day and was wondering why someone would hijack my name but later found that there was a bay somewhere named Mobjack. My name comes from the name of our summer home which was originally purchased by my grandmother and great aunt who lived in Mobile and Jackson respectively. Thanks for the reply!

I have just added an additional picture to this collection. It is a great shot of the younger folks on this trip when we all had dinner at the dock side restaurant. The picture was provided by David Jenkins.
