Is the fuel level visible [in a Moeller 26-gallon on-deck fuel tank]?

If the tank is backlighted by strong sunlight you can see the fuel level.

Ha ha. Good luck. Maybe with my million power, or whatever it is, spot light.

On my 170 Montauk, I can see the gas level pretty good through the plastic.

I have the Moeller 26-gallon on-deck fuel tank under the RPS on my 1992 Montauk. It's quite easy to see the fuel level during daylight hours.

I just installed a 26 gallon Moeller on our 170 Montauk. No problem seeing the fuel level in the day time. When I put gasoline in it the first time I pumped in six gallons and marked the outside of the tank with a permanent marker, then pumped another 6 and did the same thing, and again etc. I alos made a fuel level "dip stick" and marked it at the same time I was filling and marking the tank. This was just in case the numbers faded on the outside of the tank. While on the trailer and lashed to the truck the tank would only hold 23.5 gallons.....not level I guess.

Nauti, you da man! Filling from six up at the dock would be a little refinement but good idea.

Would this work? Mark on a piece of blue masking tape on the first fill on the trailer. At the dock adjust/transfer marks to plastic for six etc. when afloat.

Thanks to all for input. Moeller fuel gauge cap, anyone.

Mirax Fuel Products has two 12/ or 24 gal. Boston Whaler replacement tanks for above deck use. There're Aluminum or Aluminum Steel. Great tanks. Only problem was my vented cap wasn't working.{bad spring}. Mine was $400.00.Best part it's not RED and plastic!

Hey Dave, good to see you posting. I love the fuel tank you have BUT by the time you add in shipping, fittings and incidentals needed to do an install like you have on your Montauk it's big bucks. A lot more than just the cost of the tank. A 26 gallon Moeller fuel tank with shipping, fittings and new tie down straps was less than $225.00. (I got tank on sale)Hommassas is less than year away I'm gonna find the Trout this year. Hey to R.

well, jerry lets see; 50.00 shipping,30.00 at most for fittings, tie downs from old pate tank, and if we want to add new hoses another 25.00, HMMMM...

My post wasn't meant to be offensive in any way. If I came off that way please forgive. The Pate fiberglass tank I removed was every bit of a 500 dollar bill. I really like the Mirax tanks and the setup you have it's just a little much for me to spend right now so I went with the red plastic Moeller. Maybe a Mirax one day.

None taken Jerry, you know that. This has been said before,we buy these high dollor boats, then to get by with the average accessories.I've done it too!but this time I went in my savings and got what I though was permanent, best looking, best operation for this boat.thats all. David

I got mine (26g Moeller) from Bass Pro for $150.00 last year. It is easy to see the fuel level from outside, at least during daylight hours. Mine also came with a fuel gauge cap which is fairly accurate and vented.
