We've been at Ocracoke for the last few days and ventured offshore today. The weather closed out quickly and we got caught in a TS in the way in. My wife was shotting video of the storm and just by chance had the camera pointed the spot of impact. Here's the video ...... I slow the video down so you could get a better perspective of the strike. http://bluewaterpirate.phanfare.com/3341636_4662248#imageID=78087008 Here's the picture I was able to pull out of the video ...... pretty sobbering stuff. http://i676.photobucket.com/albums/vv129/bluewaterpirate/Garmin%20376c/ Lighting.jpg?t=1250203637 I'm not in the habit of doing this much! Great shot! It would be cool to see the video slowed down even more. |

Tom, I'm with you. I like to be tied up at the dock when that stuff rolls in. Unfortunately, there's a lot of lightning where I live. Florida is the lightning capital of the world and I live in Brevard County which has the most lighting in Florida. Needless to say, I have a tremendous respect for the weather whenever I'm out on the water. Especially since I have 2 large lightning rods (aka outriggers) on my boat. |
