I awoke early today with nothing to do so I hooked up and headed East to Portsmouth N.H.. Met up with my family and our two 1970 Whalers headed to the ramp. About two miles from home I couldn't help but notice a sweet 1942 Indian. The only problem with the sight was he just blew through a stop sign attempting to make a right hand turn, oh he also had a sidecar I watched in horror as we both made eye contact and knew this wasn't going to work. The sidecar left the ground the front wheel wobbled and under the boat he went! The scene was grizzly as the poor old guy didn't have on a helmet! He made contact right at the left fender of my tandem trailer. Then he hit a minivan. He then spun around with the bike on top of him! In no time EMS arrived and off he went unconscious to the hospital
The bike was destroyed, the Ribside only took a one inch scratch deep into the gelcoat exposing green glass. The impact was so severe that my self inflating floatation vest went off in the boat and popped the lid off my seat.
We finished up with the police slapped on a little 5 minute epoxy, pulled the bent fender away from the tire and went boating for 8 hours. Isle of Shoals, Great Bay, and dinner at a dock and a sunset cruise.
Pictures will follow when I return home.
I should have stayed in Montauk yesterday !!

Glad he's OK and that the boat is not badly damaged.

Having ridden a fair amount on MC's equipped with sidecars, they are a funny animal. When they are on 3 wheels, they drive 'like a car' (and a poorly handling one at that). When you 'fly' the sidecar, the rules change and they drive like a motorcycle. In any event, they are not a great thing to corner at speed... and I'd be lying if I said I had never gotten into the wrong part of an intersection with one when I was learning how to handle one.
