I was looking at a new prospect Whaler for adoption lately. And have come to the opinion that this is presently the perfect time for buying a boat. The summer is but a memory and seeing fall upon us will see most people putting things away. It is truly a time to purchase as the motivation of the sellers will be highest. Prices will be more readily negotiable since spring will be some six months away. I have made my bid and am only a phone call away. Have you bought or sold a boat in September?

Not me. I did exactly what I am not supposed to do. I purchased a brand new Montauk in the spring. I could not bear to purchase a boat and wait 6 months to use it.It also depends on how old you are. Older people have more money but less time. Good luck with your purchase strategy. |

I have bought two Whalers in my life - both in December. However, it was due more to their availability than to a cost-saving strategy. When I found what I had been looking for, I bought it. The time of year was of no consideration. Marsh

I agree anytime is a good time to buy or sell. You only need one buyer or seller. What's important is finding the right boat. |

Bought so many boats through the years don't remember if one was in September. From recent experience purchasing some parts and boats November-February may be better price wise due to spending on the holidays and people having the bills due. Seems to cut the purchaser pool down and it may have been on the market longer. |

I've been very surprised at the market for used Whalers lately.I think we've all seen several very nice "classic" boats at asking prices substantially below what the market historically has been. I think it's a great to to be a buyer and a horrible time to sell. |

I am sure it's different in different regions, but in South Ms, sell before July 4th to get top dollar, and buy after the 4th to get a better deal. This doesn't seem to apply as much to boats over 30 ft. or the high end market say 100 thousand and up. |

I took Nicks (tohsgib) advice afew years ago and put my 1997 Montauk up for sale right around tax refund time. It sold withen a week to the first couple that looked at it. Things may have changed in the last year, but that couple had the hots for a used Montauk and just had to have it. I even made money on it after using it for four years. I will always keep my 1976 Newport, thats the boat for me. Dave |

Yes, I bought my 1973 13 Sport last September. Great price, too! |

My Outrage was found in December. A friend of mine (homecare nurse) opened an e- mail at a client's home the picture attached lead her to be directed to the barn where my boat had been stored for 27 years since the passing of it's previous owner. She was pulled to my address soon thereafter. Recently here in Fairfield County Connecticut there seems to be no difference in timing the purchase, the economy is such that you feel it or you don't. For those that do the toys go first ! |

Right place, right time, with cash (cash is a deal maker it talks), give a price you want to pay and walk away, leave your phone number....Happy Boat Hunting |

If you can find the boat you want in the winter, you can probably get a good deal. I searched for a year before buying my Dauntless 180 in February at a steep discount. The owner was willing to drop $3,000 off the price to make the deal happen. |
