I just took a cruise to Bermuda and on the way back to my ship from the ferry from St. Georges I found this old classic tied to the dock. http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v704/liteamorn/?action=view& current=099.jpg |

I like the name Ding A Ling. Haven't been to Bermuda in 15 years but there used to be a boat rental service on Bermuda at the public wharf near the Cambridge Beaches resort (end of Cambridge Road) that rented 13 and 16 foot Boston Whalers. The 13 that we rented had a Mariner 25 HP outboard of the same type as the one in the picture. |

This was my first trip there and the lesson I learned was STAY OFF OF THE MOPEDS! |

I rent scooters every time I'm down there and have never had a problem. Then again, being an experienced motorcycle rider probably makes a difference. |

I find it difficult to stay on the wrong side of the road there. Len |

I was in Bermuda last week to, and didn’t see you Liteamorn. I missed the 13 in St George‘s to. Will have to take a look for it next trip. We did get a chance to go over to Windjammer Watersports at Cambridge Beach Resort. They no longer rent Boston Whalers. They rent an off brand 17’ center console now. But still offer kayaks, windsurfers, Lasers, and small sloop rigged sailboats. Gladwin Lambert oversees the operation at Windjammer. A very good sailor and one of the islands top tennis players. Robinson’s Marina just down the road may still be renting Whalers. Mopeds are mopeds just drive the speed limit and watch out for other traffic. Your US health insurance may not work, but they do take credit cards at the hospital. |

Through a comedy of instictual errors (mostly this insane desire to return to the right side of the road when not given the chance to think about it) my girl friend and I ended up putting one moped each on the ground. Thankfully niether one of us was injured seriously. We cruised from Bayonne NJ to Kings Warf and were in Bermuda Monday and Tuesday. I wish I had posted here we were going it would have been nice to meet up with you for dinner or something KillerWhaler62. That 13 was tied up in the harbor in Kings Warf. I saw a flier for Boston Whaler boat rentals where I rented our mopeds (Oeleander scooters in Kings Warf)but I didn't look at where they were being rented at. |

I have not been there since the mid-late 80's. There was a Whaler dealer right in Hamilton. Around 1985 a 13 sport w/o trailer was like $13k, about double what it was in the US. Mopeds suck, get a scooter for a few quid more. I actually got DUI'd in Bermuda when I was about 15. Got nailed doing 40mph. Luckily it was Christmas Eve and they let me go. We also put laundry soap in the fountain in Hamilton...what a sight. I went to School with a Bermudian and that was her idea. When I first went there we went to Henry VIII restaurant and I call it Henry Vill. To this day the family still calls it that. My sister goes there about every year. I will get back one day...too many other places to see in the Carribean first. Plus it is much cheaper down here. I will say that Bermuda is probably the cleanest place in the entire world, lots of history as well being the second oldest Parliamentary "Democracy" next to England(Barbados is the 3rd). |
