This weekend's weather was perhaps the most amazing gift we have received in years. Let me share?

This picture is of my oldest, James, and it was taken in August aboard our Montauk. http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o295/TheMaryAlice/jamesmontauk-1.jpg

This is yesterday morning's boat ride on crisp Barnegat Bay : http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o295/TheMaryAlice/bbay2.jpg

This is my baby, Mary Alice, at the beach today. Look at that water! http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o295/TheMaryAlice/maryocean.jpg

This was last night's sunset. Wine. Ice cream for the kids. The smell of distant burning driftwood. http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o295/TheMaryAlice/barbay1.jpg

What a weekend. Binkie you gotst it all wrong man.

Sal,

It was one of the best weekends here in the WAshinton DC/Maryland/Virgina area as well...And were not into fall rock fish season quite yet. I think a lot of us down here think Autumn Whalering in our area is some of the best time to go whalering.
Ken called me from Ontario recently and told me Kenora and Land of the Lakes summer was a bust...but we had the best whalering weather here that I can recall. I got a slew of people who are already planning to go on the "Once around NYC" this coming year and the "Potomac Swim", and hopfully we can add a Potomac get together this year for everyone who wants to come down and head up....The Potomac is 7 miles wide in some places:). We are indeed very fortunate to have this place to boat in:)

Thnaks for the pics and sharing....

Hope all stay well as we approuch Holloween WHalering:))

Sal, some day out there yesterday, huh? My wife and I took a leisurely cruise out to the end of the inlet jetties at Barnegat Light and then gassed up at Bobbies.
We were informed by the guys there that the buzzing helicopter overhead was filming shots for the show "Swords-Life on the Line". Apparently we could be in one of the opening credits if we make the editorial cut. Linda Greenlaw left the Viking Village yesterday morning, and is swordfishing out of Barnegat Light this season from what we were told. Must be next season's show, as they are likely doing the long steam to Georges Bank for the October fishing.

After that bit of excitement we retired to our usual anchorage at Tices, had our subs and napped. One stellar day out there, and that water color near the inlet, like your shot on the sand, was amazing.

Friday, the day I elected to take off for fishing, was the proverbial horse of a different color. Big heave, wind chop and gray skies. Looked and felt like November out on the Barnegat Light reef, and we were in sweats all day. Poor fishing, too, out there. Panfishing at Myers did not disappoint, however.

Sal – Thanks for sharing.
It was by far one of the nicest weekends of the year. One of the nice things about having teenagers is it allows my wife and I to enjoy our weekend coffee and newspaper on the deck.

It was my daughters 14th birthday on Saturday and she is taking up golf in school, so it was out to the driving range with her new clubs.

In the mean time I had to repack one of my trailer wheel bearings after I must have lost a SureLube dust cap on the way to the ramp last week. Two and a half hours later I had all four repacked and sealed with new SureLube dust caps. I always feel better about boating after completing that task.

Stripers should be making an appearance as the water continues to cool. Can’t wait!

Sal,

Very nice pictures.

I am glad somebody is getting out on the water. My whalering this weekend consisted of removing all the thru-hulls from the boat, and some much needed cleaning of the rear baitwell and splashwell. I hope to replace the thru-hulls in the coming week.

Other than that, we enjoyed the fine weather while honoring the time tested tradition of watching my son's football game and daughter's soccer game Sunday.

Still hoping to get out for the fall striper run.

Spent the afternoon out on the Hudson, up around Poughkeepsie. Air temp was 74, water temp was 74. Drifted for a bit, did some late-season tubing, and generally enjoyed the last of the "warm enough" days before the "bundle up" fall foliage runs up river.

Launched in Newburgh, and for the first time all season, saw another Whaler there! A Newport launching alongside my 1986 Montauk.

Perfect day for Whalering, and an ideal capping off of a wonderful weekend.

It's better in September!

I always looked forward to that month on LBI. Tourists were gone, waterways were not crowded, air was crisp, and skies were like high definition TV. Fortunatley for me though I will get the same weather for about 4-5 months down here, starting in about 6 weeks. Still 90 degrees here but by the end of October it will get into the high 70's-low 80's and stay that way until January. Then from March till May same deal....can't friggin wait. This heat is killin me. Oh..grass stops growing in a few weeks also, another chore I won't have to do until April or so.

Launched at Keyport NJ and ran up the Arthur Kill behind Staten Island to look at the Ship Graveyard again. It was a wonderful day! Hope to enjoy a few more before the cover goes on the Montauk.
