That system is coming through Minnesota and heading east as I write this. My little 16 foot Whaler was bounced all over the lake today, although my water isn't big enough to make 14 footers. I didn't have a life jacket nearby. I had it on! |

http://www.mlive.com/news/grand-rapids/index.ssf/2009/09/wind_buffets_cars_beaches_artp.html Look closely at that photo: The wave coming in from "behind" the dune on the left is probably a 10 footer. The square concrete base for that pierhead light is about 7 ft. tall, if I recall correctly. Can't wait for more photos. Could be like the 1997 storm... |

Drat. Mlive changed the photo on me and there is now a photo of the Big Red at Grand Haven at that link. They've included a slide-show of images. The one I referred to above was the first in the slide-show with a green and white beacon at Holland. Dave |

I love heading out to the Grand Haven Pier when Lake Michigan get nasty. http://www.facebook.com/jrohlfing#/photo.php?pid=30028360&id=1001793531 http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=30028359&l=69c767955e& id=1001793531 http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=30048789&l=5bb9031bd6& id=1001793531 I also love the extreme still and frozen. It is also my favorite place to watch sunsets. |

I witnessed 15 to 20 foot waves in a confused sea At Eagle Harbor mi today on lake Superior. Sorry no photos as it was raining sideways in a 30 knot wind. It was an awesome display of power that for the first time in my life made me glad i was not out in the thick of it. |

Chicago NOAA weather is indicating Lake Michigan is rolling 14'-18' out of the Northwest, with the Michigan shore beaches getting hammered and flooding. Ever wonder how Michigan got 300 miles of sandy beaches and towering dune shoreline? This is how. That would be some serious surf. |
