I was putting out of the harbor, [obeying the speed limit], to go take a few casts at the fish here in Santa Barbara the other day, and I see a 30+ foot cabin cruiser towing in a nice Whaler. I don't know my bigger Whalers so well, but it was bigger than a 17... maybe a 19? It was the kind with a bow/nose design that is not classic whaler or the smirk you get with 13/15/17.

I don't know, we all see broken down boats every so often. It just hurts a little when one of them is a Whaler.

On the flip side, the next day out, I see the orange Harbor Patrol boat being towed in... at least I think it was. It was lashed to the hull of a much bigger boat, [another cabin cruiser], and slightly aft of it. I suppose it's possible the HP boat was pushing the cruiser. But then again, I saw the uniformed officer leave the helm of his boat unattended and board the bigger boat, so that made me conclude that "the man" was the one in the stricken vessel.

Maybe the the towed whaler was a tender?

Everybody breaks down. Or has an accident. I once fished two
CA F&G wardens out after they fell out of their boat and the
boat kept going. Also recovered their boat.

Karma banks for the future.

I would not be surprised to find that Boston Whalers have gone to the aid of fellow mariners more often than any other make of boat.

Two weeks ago Jordan took his 17' Boston Whaler out on his first sea trial.
Shortly after leaving Santa Barbara harbor we spotted an inflatable boat adrift with a man, woman and infant aboard.
It was clear that they were trying, unsuccessfully, to restart their outboard motor. We offered assistance and found that they did not have oars, an anchor, or a vhf radio aboard. They gladly accepted our offer to tow them back to their slip in Santa Barbara harbor.
References were made to the movie "Pay it Forward" and they will no doubt extend a helping hand to another boater in the future.
