Anybody see this one on Ebay. 1966 Curriteck. Owner says it's worth 28K...but is asking 22K. Any thoughts reguarding this one. Very nice restore job, but must have paid topdollar for all the work.

The fight between a sellers claim of value / worth (to them) and the actual market value is the most common struggle in the world of sales. While there may be an @ss for every seat, finding that @ss becomes more and more difficult the further and further from market value the item is actually listed at. Also, restored is never truly as valuable as OEM perfect unrestored/unused and, if you are going to restore something you better restore it to OEM spec if you really expect top dollar (in this case the interior is not OEM correct and the nonskid has been redone with a texture that is not OEM).

Could they really get $22,000 for that boat? I would go with a probably not. If they do, good for them for finding someone that felt the boat was worth that asking price to them. It is a very well done boat and looks great but, most people looking at Whalers like this do not like the thwart seat style layout in a 16' boat. Most want the center console in that size range and if it had a Sakonnet style interior it would be more desirable. Also yes, it has a newer motor on it but, it should have ZERO hours on it if you are going to claim it is worth $9000 alone. You will likely never get a good return by adding a new motor to a classic hull.

No, I can assure you it is a 16 hull. Whaler only made the "Currituck" a 16' hull and you would never be able to hang an 20" E-tec 90 on a 13 1960's.

I saw the boat earlier on Ebay. I was thinking I wouldn't trust an owner who couldn't spell "Currituck" correctly. It is gorgeous but very over priced. I notice that nice boats seldom seem to meet reserve price on eBay. He's automatically eliminated anyone who might have a "listing notification" for a "Currituck."

If I were to go to all that trouble to restore the boat to original specs with gelcoat etc, (and I have in the past and just doing another). I would do the NOS white rubrail or at least the Anniversary white rub rail. I like the choice of engine. The interior blue gel coat looks a little off in color. I wonder if he got it from one of the two manufacturers that make the Boston Whaler refurb colors. It could be that it's so fresh possibly. So I can't realy find a lot wrong with it. If you were to do one of these you'd probably spend that amount easy restoring it, but that's also part of the fun IMHO. I suppose I'm also glad the guy didn't bolt down some lawn chairs or a trolling moter to the bow. All in all nice job. I wouldn't think you're going to steal it with everything so restored and new, etc. Add it all up, trailer, engine, raw boat, restoration work, materials, you'll hit 20K fast. If I were thinking of buying it I'd go through it with a fine tooth comb. Did he paint over the serial number? If so, bad mistake, but you could re-stencil it. Good luck either way.

Color does look off and his reg #'s are too close together. Nice boat but worth maybe half of what he is asking.

The console is neither original nor the original Curritcuk design; sort of half way between a Currituck/Sport and the Super Sport console design.
