It's been a while since I posted, but I wanted to pass on the news that one of the forum members that many of you probably know, Jim Comito (HAPPYJIM) has passed away. He died Tuesday, February 2. Despite the fact that Jim and I live within about 50 miles of each other, we'd never met, but had e-mailed back and forth some to give each other fishing reports for some of the spots he and I both fished. I don't know any details, other than what's printed in his obituary: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/dailyadvance/obituary.aspx?n=james-a-comito&pid=139376069 I just felt compelled to pass this on to the members here. Very sad to hear this...He will always be remembered as a wonderful person, who would go out of his way to help anyone in need.We never met, but we corresponded on a number of interests and he even sent me some extra snaps for a pillow top for a cooler last year. Fine man who will be sorely missed.RIP my friend, Henry AKA THE YIDDIL |

It's funny, but when you know people through screen names and postings, you often contrive this image of them in your head. I thought he was older, for no particular reason. Given that he was only 58 y/o and the family suggested donations to a hospice, he must have had cancer. A dear friend died about 10 days ago, at the well-lived age of 92. This was the quote in his obituary. I think it is appropriate to post, as an acknowledgement to our fellow Whaler aficionado, HAPPYJIM- I MUST down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky, John Masefield |

Thank you Lars for passing this along. My condolences to the Comito family and friends. Like others I never met Jim in person, but he answered many questions I had about the North Carolina coastline. He offered to meet me when I was vacationing on the outer backs but I think his treatments prevented that rendezvous. |

Lars, Thanks for the posting...
I always seem to learn from Jim's posts and comments. He will be missed. Jim... I hope your journey is peaceful onboard the Whaler of your dreams. With calm winds and a following sea may your voyage end in the sheltered harbor of Gods love and peace... Semper Paratus (salute)

Ok, im just throwing this out there. I would be willing to contribute to a fund that would be a donation to the hospice from his friends at Continous Wave. Has anyone done anything like this? and would anyone join me? After all, WE are more then just words on the computer, right? Mike |

I don't think Jim ever had a cross word to say to this forum- those are words to live by. When your obituary lists your nickname as Happy Jim, you know you've done something right. RIP Jim. Tim |

I never met Jim but we corresponded several times and planned to meet to exchange some items. He mentioned his chemo treatments and then I quit hearing from him. I regret that I did not follow up. Life is so short. |

I did speak with him a few times on line and did help him in doing some postings of photos. I did find him to be an easygoing and decent guy. He will be missed. |
