Guys--I was running my 175-HP Ficht on Ficht oil. I found it harder to find so I am using XD100. Should I use XD 50 instead? I'm not really worried about the difference in price, I just want the best for the motor. Thanks--Scott

XD-50 replaced the original FICHT oil many years ago.

XD-100 is the absolute best oil for your motor if price isn't a problem.

For whatever its worth, I run XD-50 in my Evinrude Fichts.

I just sold my eleven year old 115 HP FICHT. For the eleven years I owned the engine I used only the Evinrude and later BRP recommended oil.

As soon as XD-100 oil became available I started using it. When the boat/motor sold the prospective buyer insisted on witnessing a compression test. All cylinders were between 147 and 150 PSI and the spark plugs were clean. The buyer was impressed and I believe the compression test clinched the deal.

I've been buying XD-100 in bulk for less than $35 per gallon. Given the results I believe the XD-100 is very inexpensive and would gladly pay double the price.

Is there a typical oil consumption rate per 50 or 100 gal.for Fichts? 225's in particular.

Oil in a Ficht motor is consumed in proportion to the gasoline used, generally in a ratio of 1:50.

The rate of oil consumption depends on how much load the motor experiences (how hard it is run). My 225 Fichts run about 40 percent of the time below 1000 RPM and 40 percent of the time at 4000 RPM. The remaining 20 percent is scattered between 1000 and 4000 and some above 4000 RPM. I typically put 1 gallon of oil in the tank for every 60 gallons of fuel.
