I'm looking for a flag pole socket for my 16' BW. Can someone make a suggestion on where to look? How does everyone mount a flag on the transom of the Montauk? Thanks, |

I went to WEST Marine and bought a flag pole socket to mount my flag staff. Because I have a 48-inch flag staff, the flag pole socket is mounted with through bolts and a backing plate. |

Jim, Did you buy a deck mount socket or did you find one suitable for mounting vertically on the transom? Thanks, |

I also bought one from West Marine out of their catalogue. The one I got sits on top of the gunnell and came without any mounting hardware. |

The flag pole socket that I use does not require making a large hole in the deck for the socket to clear. The bottom surface of the flag pole socket that I use is flush with the deck. The only holes needed are holes for the mounting screws to pass through the deck. |

Get a long light pole and put it on the light pole.... |

I have a good old fashion mahogany pole that I'd prefer to use, instead of the light pole. The problem with the 16's is that there really isn't a flat deck to mount a socket to. I think this is what you guys are referring to: http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ ProductDisplay?productId=61258&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&storeId=11151& storeNum=10108&subdeptNum=10481&classNum=11240 I can't figure out how to get something like that to work. I was hoping to find a similar socket designed to mount vertically on the interior of the transom. Any ideas? Thanks, |

Kevin, I have a mahognany flag pole also. I found that it fit perfectly in my Outgage18 build in rod holder. The angle is a little more than I wanted but with the pole being 48" it works great. A rail mounted rod holder will do the job. Steve |
