"Mercury Marine has hired back every available employee it laid off and is once again hiring new workers."

"The company is continuing to consolidate their Oklahoma operations to Fond du Lac and will be rolling out exciting new products in the coming months," Hopper said."

Sounds like Mercury may be rolling out some new products. New motors?

There was not a single comment from a Mercury official. Note all the quotes are from Hopper, a politician.

Where is the real news?

Our elected officials would never mislead us. :-)

Hopefully Hopper was grandstanding a little and leaked information without Mercury's knowledge.

I wonder why Mercury is ramping up it's hiring? Maybe new 4 strokes? Maybe because of a Cummins MerCruiser, there might be a Cummins Mercury outboard?

The "real news" by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's esteemed Rick Barrett:

http://www.jsonline.com/business/95233924.html

Relevant excerpts:

"Sales of 18-foot aluminum boats are up 30% from a year ago, a hopeful sign that sales of other boats also could be on the mend. Often used by anglers, small aluminum boats are a bellwether of the marine industry."

"After allowing boat inventories to decline dramatically, Brunswick increased first-quarter 2010 production by more than 50% and increased wholesale boat shipments by more than 40% from a year earlier.

"Dealers are starting to see people show up, to begin the discussion about a boat," McCoy said."

I think there are still plenty of deals out there. Case in point. this was listed two weeks ago for 6500 now asking 4200.

We are definitely at a point of "Cash is King".
My local dealer is reporting a very brisk, new boat sales as well. He spent money on inventory and as a result he is selling what is on the lot. Also reporting cash deals are the norm.

Proably why their stock is down 1/3 and heading for under $10.
