Saturday, we fished with a friend from the deck of his 35 foot SeaHunter CC. We tried to make the run to the gulf stream but had to turn back at 25 miles the weather wasn't what was forecast. The weatherman missed this one for sure .... forecast called for winds 5 - 10 mph winds from the south with 2 - 3 foot seas ... what we got was 15 - 20 mph gusting to 25 with waves 5 - 7 at about 7 second intervals with thunderstorms. Not conducive for running 70 miles to the stream. We got the stuffings beat out of us ... could only make 22 mph and keep the boat on plane and in the water. But hey, it was great to be on the ocean. I shot some video running thru Top Sail Inlet .... it's such a pretty ride I decided to post it. Enjoy ..... http://bluewaterpirate.phanfare.com/4619048_5392986 Tom |

The black outboard motors on that boat are quiet. What kind are they? |

We live in Hubert and drop our 170 Montauk in at Red Barn so have the privileged choice of transiting through Bogue, Brown's or Top Sail inlets. The run through base down the ICW to Sneads Ferry/Top Sail where the New River joins is quite a pleasure both boating and sight seeing-wise, as is this entire area(!) Well, the secret's out now I guess.... ;-) |

I thought those black motors might be Mercury VERADO motors. The cameraman seemed rather shy about getting them in the frame. After I finally watched about eight minutes of the video I did get a glimpse of the Mercury logo and the "FOURSTROKE" designator. That boat throws a very narrow wake. What speed were you making near the end of your reel? |

Don't take this the wrong way Bluewaterpirate. But the inlet is called "Topsail Inlet" not "Top Sail Inlet". It's pronounced "Topsoil" to the people born and raised in the area. |
