As I begin crawling around my 1982 25 I'm finding some things I've never seen before. Here is what appears to be a factory Thru Hull transducer , the bottom of the boat has a flush brass plate and topside it's covered with gel coat no signs of post production installation. http://s185.photobucket.com/albums/x44/ribside/?action=view& current=thurhull.jpg Anyone familiar with this ? Being a sealed unit it will be useless to me as new electronics hit the boat. |

James: may not be usless if you can figure out which unit it is it may work, it may match your unit. You may just have to put a new electrical connection to match your new unit. To be a pre construction it would have had to be layed up in the mold when the hull was formed. Either way should not be a big problem if it has to be knock out and changed. See if you can find one to fit the same size hole....good luck |

I have a Hummingbird 1197si to go in the boat, hope to use the thru hull somehow. Springs a ways off. |

Jim - Is it in the rear of the center well, in the cabin sole? The factory did mold in a wood plate in that area. In our Revenge, we added a thru hull in that area. We had to create an angled plate out of mahogany so the transducer would point in the correct direction. Worked well, except in certain speeds and angles, it would create an odd noise. |

Don it's aft , just in front of the splash well. |

are you sure the plate on the bottom is brass? High frequency Ultrasound waves are pretty much blocked by metal. Maybe a call to Whaler will solve the mystery. JimL |

Jim - Could it be a dealer installed thru hull electronic speedometer? |

Here's what I know the plate is metal, the sounder is listed my circuit breaker marked "Digital Sounder" the white box on the dash is the Digital sounder. The boat has never been altered since new. It was yard maintained since day One, I have every service record. http://s185.photobucket.com/albums/x44/ribside/?action=view¤t=18. jpg |

Could it be the transducer is inside the hull in a wet box or an epoxy mount? Could Whaler have made a solid spot in the hull for that purpose? Con |

I would contact Whaler ask some questions and see if this was an option, or maybe they can shed some light on this transducer.. |

Now that I reread your original post noting the flush brass plate out side I'm thinking it is a through hull mount with a really nice inside cover. Have you tried to remove the cover? Con |

It is part of a system called 'Shipmate'. http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x44/ribside/autopilot1.jpg It is integrated into the autopilot system. http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x44/ribside/autopilot2.jpg The other gauges on the dash all appear to be part of this system. http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x44/ribside/18.jpg |
