Quick question, my wife and I are heading down to Florida and were wondering if there were any places to rent a small Center Console (whaler preferred) to get out on the Intracoastal and do some cruising. We will be in Delray Beach which is on the east coast basically in between Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach. Any suggestions for places on the water worth exploring/checking out would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

It has been some years since I was down in Del Ray, but there are ample places to rent boats from in Ft. Lauderdale. We had a bow rider if I remember correctly. There is no shortage of j*ck*sses with the same idea as you, who have never operated a boat before, in the intracoastal. You have to be ready to avoid a lot of idiots.

Wow, the Intercoastal in the Delray area is beautiful! From Lighthouse point north is just a wonderful stretch of waterway.

Enjoy!!

Delray: I only know of two places, one rents high end yachts (on the inter-coastal) and the other are jet skis and Hobie cats (on the beach)

My winter place is on the ocean side of the ICW between Ft Lauderdale and Delray Beach, so I know the area well. The only place you can rent a Whaler is Lauderdale Marina, a big Whaler Dealership. I know they rent a 170 Montauk, but it is very expensive.

There is also a low end boat rental place in Pompano Beach, at the Atlantic Blvd bridge. That's about it as far as I know.

Another great way to get out on the water in the Lauderdale area is simply get a day's pass on the Water Taxi system. You can really see a lot, and have a great time, for $15/day, making all the stops where you can get on and off as you please. At least do that. If you see us out on "Whale Lure", give us a shout.

I recently rented a boat (I forgot the name of the place) in Pompano Beach at the Eastern end of the bridge on Atlantic Ave. There are two rental places at this location. The one closest to the bridge had a 17' Whaler among the rental boats but I'm not sure it was a rental boat.
We cruised from Pompano to Ft. Lauderdale and up the New River then back up to Hillsboro Inlet in four hours (1/2 day rental).
Friends of mine rented a boat in Delray but I do not have the name of the place. Try Googling "boat rentals Delray Florida".
Bon Voyage!
