This is interesting...thoughts anyone? I kind of like this idea. I hope it doesn't hurt the prestige of the Whaler brand though. On the flip side discounts sure are nice especially on a boat as expensive as a Whaler.

Costco was running a Whaler promotion in 2010 as well. Last year I was surprised when a salesman at a Whaler dealership asked if I was a Costco member and then explained the promotion. |

In Cabo San Lucas, they had Montauks and Sports lined up in the parking lot at Costco with price tags on them that you could buy on the spot and take home that day, just like buying a TV or computer. |

When I was in the market to purchase a boat, after much research, I decided it would be a 17 foot Boston Whaler Montauk - Bought my 2007 170 Montauk from Marine Max of Wilmington (Wrightsville Beach) , NC, after seeing their display of Whalers lined up in the parking lot of CostCo and crawling all over them uninhibited. Also saw that they had a CostCo member pricing - When I called the dealer and made an appointment to come in we discussed the pricing and available incentives, including of course the CostCo member enticement; and then they went even lower on the price....The CostCo promo was just a lure to get me in to make a deal - had I agreed to the CostCo price thinking ot was the best I could do we would have wrapped up the deal right then and there - but I didn't just say "I'm a CostCo member I'll take two at that price...."; I said "Can you do me any better....?" Auto dealers do the same thing - Hey State/Local Union X employees get an extra dollar off.... If you believe that is all you can get and it is a special deal JUST FOR YOU (or an Organization you belong to) Okay, but why stop there[?] As a non Sate Union employee I actually negotiated my truck for a price below what others thought was an "inside deal" that no one else could get. Moral of the story - no matter what you see advertised or where you see it advertised, or how much you see it advertised to sell for - NEGOTIATE!! To do otherwise is to be "penny wise and pound foolish." That's my story and my take on it - skinny |

Although it sure would have been nice if they could have bulk sized that sale price for me - say a 190 at a 170 price for CostCo members. |
