Well, after two weekends and two pints of collinite 920 & 870, I've finally finished the top to bottom waxing of my 1984 Montauk. I've had the boat for almost two years, and this is the first time everything's been properly waxed since who knows when. The collinite worked well, and I used woody wax on the deck. It worked great, just as advertised. Let's hope I don't have to do this again any time soon...at least until next year. http://www.flickr.com/photos/63517537@N03/

The boat does look nice. Curious to see how long water beads with that wax. Will you be using a special soap when washing? The trailer looks like a good fit for the Montauk also. Rick |

The collinite wax seems to be a little thicker than the meguiars I've been using. My neighbor swears by the stuff and claims it will last longer than any other wax, we'll see. I guess I'll keep using the meguiars boat wash I've been using. It claims not to remove wax. The trailer is a 2010 karavan built for a lowe boat. You probably can see the lowe decals in the photos. I talked to karavan and they told me that model was the same that's being delivered with new montauk 170's except for bunk configuration. After some adjustment it works just fine, and it fits in the garage! |

My God I've got a lot of work ahead of me.... Actually mine is in nice condition (1988, mostly garaged) but to bring it up like yours.... Well Done, Dom |

My 170 Montauk got the topsides waxed a couple of weeks ago and I'm about to tackle the bottom. I'll need to do some cleaning first since it has some scum residue from sitting in the water for several weeks last fall. I've got a creeper to work on the bottom, and I can jack the boat up if there isn't enough room, but I don't have any idea how I could clean or wax the sections in contact with the trailer bunks. Should I just ignore this hidden detail? |
