I have a few ropes that are still in great shape [but are stiff]. How [can stiff rope be] made pliable again?

Soak stiff ropes in bucket of freshwater and detergent. Agitate them. Rinse thoroughly. If the ropes are kinked, unwind them and tow them (carefully) behind the boat in freshwater for a bit.

"tow them (carefully) behind the boat in freshwater for a bit"

Or if that fails, try saltwater... ;-)

Towing clothes in a mesh bag behind a sailboat etc. in saltwater is a well known way to clean and soften fabric. Salt was used for years as a cleaning agent.. try it. Rinse in freshwater after, if desired.

You can also put them in a mesh bag and run them thru the washing machine. After sailing in the ocean we often do this with a little detergent and a little fabric softener.
