Hi all. I'm new to this forum. I've been looking [at] used Outrage boats for some time now and found a 1996 Outrage 17 II that looks clean. It has:

--2007 [Yamaha] F115

--2009 [Yamaha] 9.9-HP kicker

--galvanized trailer [with] disc brakes and break away tongue

--Furuno 620p>--GPS (that probably needs to be replaced)

--two new Scotty electric downriggers

The owner replaced the fuel tank a couple years ago. The owner is asking [$22,000] which I think is a little too high. What do you think? I really want to start fishing again soon, but I don't want to pay too much for something I can find for a better price.

This is underpowered. That's a heavy, heavy 17. My best friend has had a 1996 for 16 years. He has a Yamaha 130 2 stroke on it. He picked that when the original Johnson blew up because the F115 was not enough power (same block, I think, as F90).

Nah - I have the same boat with a 115 OceanRunner Johnson - and it does just fine for me - getting there with 3 - 4 good sized adults, trolling - or pulling kids on tubes. I have never towed a skier. I don't really care about speed - as long as it easily gets up on plane and is moving at a reasonably good speed - 20 - 25 mph. I don't recall the speed (GPS) - other than not having a problem with it.

Yes, the 17 Outrage II is a bit heavier - which will slow the acceleration a bit - but gives more stability and a easier, softer ride than a lighter boat. Certainly my being at an elevation of 4500 feet affects the performance of the engine too. And then there is the drain from the internal 50 gal fuel tank cavity, et al..

As I recall - the factory HP range was from 90 to - probably around 150. The 115 is about in the middle.

No - it is fine boat and engine. But, those primarily interested in speed may want more power.

Unfortunately, I don't have good feel for the price. The newer Yamaha increases the value - based on the original. And the kicker, and the two electric down riggers add value. --- Jerry/Idaho

My best friend also had a 115 Johnson Ocean Runner on his 1996 Outrage 17 II. I agree that engine had good power. That was a two stroke, with plenty of torque to plane the boat and get it running.

The performance was virtually no different with the Yamaha 130. In fact, he laments the old Ocean Runner.

But comparing a 115 4 stroke, heavier, not the "get up and go" to the 115 Johnson is apples and oranges.

Haven't you seen the E-TEC commercial's highly touted by the Continuous Wave majority pulling a Yamaha-powered boat, with equal power, backwards and underwater when they start at the same time? My F60 on my Sport 15 has nowhere near the power that my two stroke 15 did as far as coming out of the hole, but top end is nice.

So, I stick by my assertion that an F115 is inadequate for an Outrage 17 II, particularly given the additional weight of the kicker on the transom.

I'am very happy with my 1996 Outrage 17 with F115. I have the boat since 2003 and made almost 800 hours with it. Yes I'am not the fastest, but with a 17 pitch Ballistic propeller I get a nice top speed of 44 mph. My fuel economy is by far better then my friends with nice Optimax engines.
I had ones two adult water-skiers behind my boat. Not the fastest but it worked. One skier is no problem.
When you have a full loaded boat, you which some extra HP, but for me these are rear occasions.
I think you can have a very fine boat. Price is also for European market a little too high.

The Yamaha F115 is a great motor for a Outrage 17 II. I have a client who has a brand new F115 on his 1996 hull. He loves it and had a 2-stroke 150 before the F115. I also have another client who has a 1998 Outrage 17 II with a same year Evinrude 115. I have driven that boat myself and it performed great.

Please take a picture of the GPS showing 44mph on a Yamaha F115 with a 17 pitch prop pushing an Outrage 17 II 44mph or have a passenger do it for safety.

Maybe if you are in Europe you mean KPH.

dnh,

44 MPH (GPS) is was my client reported for his Outrage 17 II and Yamaha F115 with a 17" prop... That was with one person and a light load. The boat is bottom painted. I believe the motor is mounted one hole up.

My bud has the same boat with a 150 Ocean runner and she runs about 50 on a good day. I would not doubt 44 with a 115. The 150 ispretty much overkill as it rarely is calm enough to push it that fast. It gets squirley at that speed as well. Even if she does 40-42 it will still cruise nicely at 35+ and fetch 5-6mpg which is much better than with a V6 or even an old V4 3 smoke. $22k is stiff...real stiff. I am almost at half that price with a 2006 Suzuki 115 on an older 19 Whaler. I would think about $16k with kicker.

I meant 25+ cruise, not 35.

I have spent many hours and many days over the last 14 years on a 1996 Outrage 17 II, both with a 115 Oceanrunner and a 130 Yamaha 2 stroke.

I am just asking for a picture rather than a report of a 17 Outrage II actually running 44mph with an F115 on a 17 pitch prop.

I appreciate the speculation and lack of doubt that it woudl do this in your minds but I do have doubt and I do not believe the reports.

For instance, I have hit 55mph on my 1995 Outrage 21. Instead of relying on someone to report this to me and then sharing it with you, or letting you know I have no doubt this is capable without actually witnessing it, I can show it going 52.4 while cruising the ICW.

Now, we know it goes 52.4, but we have to rely on my word and lack of doubt that it goes 55 sometimes.

Even if the Outrage 17 goes 44 on top end, its going to have sluggish holeshot. But until I see proof, I do not believe it goes that fast.

Most used Boston Whaler boats which are fairly priced will sell to the first serious buyer that looks at them.
