Yesterday was a hot humid day here in Southeast Michigan. With the weather reports calling for possible rain everyday this weekend I did not want to miss any opportunity to get the boat out. So, I rolled out of work as soon as I could (5:15 blah), got home and hooked up the boat. My wife had the kids ready to roll, had dinner packed and off we went. We headed over to our typical Lake St Clair spot to launch, the DNR Ramp at the end of South River rd on the Clinton River. It was busy with people pulling out from the day but I was able to snag an unloading ramp and make quick work of launching the boat. With the family aboard off we went for a short cruise south to the Black River (Metro Beach). http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v427/jeff_rohlfing/ 922011%20Lake%20St%20Clair/IMG_7459.jpg?t=1315072642 Heading through Metro Beach we passed a 15 Sport with a 1976is Evinrude 70 and a older couple aboard. He and I both exchanged a typical smile, nod and wave....Nice boat! The same routine was quickly followed up with a 60's 13 Sport with a 35 Evinrude (should have had the camera I know). Upon making our way further up the river we came across my two favorite boats of all time together in one spot. A 30 Chris Craft Commander Sportsman (less than 100 made I believe) and a 31 Bertram. Both were designed by the hand of Ray Hunt. I am pretty fond of his work.. That was quickly followed by a 21 Outrage III with a Honda 130 up in a lift. We made our way to a sea wall and all sad down for a picnic while watching the sun set.. With the evening still hot and muggy we headed out and decided to go for a little bit of an extended cruise while the orange glow of the already set late summer sun reflected off the high clouds and the hanging moist haze over the lake. It made it look as there was no horizon, only a fuzzy haze off to infinity. It was a great evening out with family...The kind that makes you thankful for being alive, having a boat and having great people to share your time on the water with. It was also fun seeing all the great boats hanging out and those out on the water. It never ceases to amazes me the comradery shared by Whaler owners on the water. It also never gets old for me to look at classics boats of all kinds...they always put a smile on my face. |

A Kodak moment to remember. I really like the pic of your little guy falling asleep with the fishing rod in his hand. Classic! |

I love boating up in your area. The water looks so much cleaner than in my area. The Maumee river is soooo muddy. The St Clair River is a great run from one end to the other. Great pics and nice family. Drew

Very nice. Priceless, in fact. LOVE the faithful old crossflow too, entrusted with your family, as are my old crossflows. Well done. Very well done. And thanks for sharing. -Peter |

Lake St. Clair is an interesting lake with lots of places to explore especially with family. Treasure those moments and thanks for sharing. Was it the evening light or was the rib-side a two tone? |

Jeff, very nice pictures. Keep on taking as many pictures as you can. Your kids will grow up in the blink of an eye. And as I get older I like to look back at the great times I had through my pictures. Best regards, Warren |

Thanks all. It was a great night and as always fun to be out with the family.
Peter, That old Cross Flow has been great for me, knock on wood. It has maybe 300 documented hours since new in 1974. Warren, trust me I shoot a lot of photos. I bought a Nikon D80 with a tamron 18-200 lens back in 08 when my son was born. Today I have over 70,000 shots on it. Most are of the kids. |
