I received a notice that TRAILER BOATS magazine was ceasing publication. The remainder of my paid subscription would be fulfilled by receiving another magazine. I hate to see TRAILER BOATS magazine go. It was a favorite of mine. Thanks to all the fine folks there who published it for the last few decades. You left a legacy of nice work. Here is the notice: quote: Trailer BoatsWe are sorry to inform you that Trailer Boats has discontinued publication effective with the June 2011 issue. Current subscribers to Trailer Boats will have their subscription transferred to [another magazine]. Thank you for your past support. Trailer Boats 20700 Belshaw Avenue Carson, CA 90746

[Changed TOPIC to BASS & WALLEYE BOAT Magazine, and then invented all sorts of fanciful claims. Larry--please leave this alone. Save your anti-E-TEC agenda for some other thread--jimh] |

It could be that they didn't advertise enough; I've never heard of either of them. |

I seem to remember Trailer Boats going away once before. They were gone for what seemed like a year or so then I began to get copies once again. It has been a decent magazine but I probably imagined the resurrection was not quite up to the quality of the original. Still, I'd be happy to have it back. All the other mags seem to concentrate on boats well above my budget. Butch |

Good riddance. I've never forgiven them for swallowing up "Small Boat Journal", one of the best small boating magazines ever published. "Small Boat" had one of the most unique formats, 11 x 14 if I remember correctly with great photography.Jeff |

ASIDE: Although BASS & WALLEYE BOAT Magazine is not the topic of this thread, I will be glad to say that I enjoyed BASS & WALLEYE BOAT magazine just as much as TRAILER BOATS. The former ceased publication first, as its appeal was to a much smaller audience.TRAILER BOATS covered all sorts of different boats, as long as they could be put on a trailer. The outboard engine manufacturers were not major advertisers in TRAILERS BOAT (or BASS & WALLEYE BOAT) magazine. This was actually one of the most appealing aspects of the two magazines: they did not attract the big advertisers, but instead had many small and obscure manufacturers who advertised with small, one-eight page, simple (and not too expensive) advertisements. These small manufacturers could not afford to advertise in big, high distribution, national magazines, but they found a good venue in TRAILER BOATS. Small companies could advertise their products, particular products of interest to owners of trailerable boats. I actually remember quite clearly when I saw my first copy of TRAILER BOATS Magazine. It was about 1995. My father had passed away a few months earlier, and my mother had just had a heart attack. I was at a hospital waiting room. There were some magazines laying around. One of them was an issue of TRAILER BOATS. I was delighted to find it. I had never heard of the magazine before and never seen a copy. I became a paid subscriber shortly after that. One of the most interesting features was their testing of tow vehicles. It was ironic that later I bought a 1993 FORD Crown Victoria (used) and found it had been selected as "Tow Vehicle of the Year" in TRAILER BOAT. |

I am disappointed to hear the magazine is gone. My Dad first introduced me to it. I later got my own subscription. They covered not only the trailer boats and cars, but had great travel stories on where to take your trailer boat. |

I had a subscription years ago and still enjoy seeing the magazine. It's one thing to look forward to when going to the dentist as he always has the most recent copy in his magazine rack.JimP |

I found this out a week ago when I was calling a few different magazines to inquire about advertising the SternSaver. I really wanted to advertise with them. I thought they would have been perfect for my small budget since they focused on smaller boats that were likely to have transom mounted sonar transducers. What a bummer. I hope they come back. |

I also liked the magazine, I would suspect more fishing/boating magazines may cease publication. Many people/families will always own a boat, but IMHO, the golden age of boating, with a boat of some size in every driveway may be over for a variety of reasons, from the economy to the expense of boat ownership, to many other things that take our money and for personel and family fun. |

I had been getting Boating for years, then it changed format to include cruising, with trawler yacht articles. Just a month agoe I was notified that I received the last issue, and now receive Yachting, which is of little interest to me. It makes a point though: yachts, like Rolls Royce automobiles, will have a market despite ANY type economy. |

Trailer Boating will be missed. By its title, it was somewhat focused on smaller boats. I have no interest in Yacht... Mag. One more victim of the spending to buy votes. |

I received my first issue of the “other” magazine earlier this week. RIP, Trailer Boats. You will be missed. |

Sign of the times. Gas way high, I enjoyed Trailer Boats and had many of them as I subsribed from the late 80s to the mid 90's. There was one good article about the Boston Whaler Montauk in 91 or 92 but mostly sleek boats and go fast types.i enjoyed the tow vechicle tests and articles about power chips ect though I never bought any souped up items. |

I was wondering why I haven't been getting any issues. I recently moved back to PA from GA and have only been getting my issues of Boating. I thought it was the post office screwing up or something. Trailer Boats always had some decent Youtube videos to watch when your bored where they had used a Montauk. |

This follows the trend in almost all of these types of 'enthusiast' magazines. The magazine depends upon traditional print ads for revenue. Boat builders and marine product companies are spending less on print ads and more on 'internet' marketing or social network communications. I think there is still a large enough market for the content and information Trailer Boats delivered... advertisers just won't support it delivered in print format anymore. Might be a great opportunity for a person interested in developing a web site geared toward trailer boats. Jim??? Looks like another project for you. |

now I know why I have a subscription to Yachting. My favorite part of Trailer Boats magazine was the technical section. The editor that wrote that section always had some inside information on the latest in small boat engine technology. I am sorry to see them go as well. I am definately a Trailer Boater guy. |

I have been a subscriber for probably 15 years. While the magazine was not what it once was, I still enjoyed reading it. I learned a great deal about boats and towing from Trailer Boats and will miss it. Tony |
