The U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command (USASMDC/ARSTRAT) has awarded a $36 million contract to Brunswick Commercial and Government Products (BCGP) to supply up to sixty 32-foot and 37-foot Boston Whaler Justice models. The boats will support U.S. Southern Command’s counternarcotics assistance program within Central America and the Caribbean to counter transnational organized criminal networks in Latin America. The boats will be supplied over a four-year period. Both models feature Boston Whaler’s unsinkable Unibond™ construction, center console layouts, heavy-duty angled rub strakes and engine crash rails to prevent damage, and bow mounts for weapons. The 32-foot Justice is powered by twin Mercury Verado outboard engines and features twin bolster seats at the helm. The 37-foot Justice is powered by triple Mercury Verado outboard engines and includes an integrated bow thruster for maneuverability and a climate-controlled cabin with head and berth. Both models include shock-mitigating seats in the cockpit for crew safety and comfort in rough seas. “We are honored to have the opportunity to fulfill this contract,” said BCGP’s General Manager Jennifer Butera. “These models are fast and extremely durable – a perfect match for their mission.”

BTW ... $36,000,000 divided by 60 boats = $600,000 per boat! |

Ridge -That figure may be misleading. It might include a certain number of spare parts per vessel. I've seen RFP's include, say, one spare motor per two boats. Would have to examine the contract to be sure. Regards - Don |

The contract almost certainly includes equipment other than just the boat. I would also not be surprised that a 37' Justice alone, with the modifications the government will likely require, would retail for more than $600,000. After all, the basic 37' Outrage alone is well north of $450,000. |

Regardless of what is included, that is an awesome deal! I'd love to see what a $600K Whaler looks like.

Beauty. At least our favorite boat builder is getting in on the riches our nation squanders on the endless War On Drugs. |

Spare parts indeed will be a big part of the dollar amount. Bad motors, with varying problems, will be dropped onto pallets and new ones bolted up onto the boat. In a few years you'll see bin boxes full of props, throttles, gauges, trim tabs and pumps on the auction block selling for pennies on the dollar. |

The award is announced on fbo.gov https://www.fbo.gov/index?s=opportunity&mode=form& id=2a55e563ced43d66320f38e22c453106&tab=core&_cview=0 Nice it was sole source meaning only Boston Whalers are procured. It is an Indefinite Delevery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) award which means the dollar amount is the ceiling or max that can be spent. The exact price can be obtained under FOIA if anyone really needs to know. Tony |
