7 years ago I bought a 17 Montauk and drove across the state to do some "Whalering" with a couple guys I had never even met, John Flook and Dave Buckalew. These guys were my first introduction to what owning a Whaler was all about. When Gambler went for sale I was upset that I was not in the financial position to buy her, so when I decided it was time to move up in size and I found out John might be parting with his longtime friend Outré, I was not going to have the same regrets I had when I missed out on Gambler. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v735/MontaukBob/Whaler/Outre/ IMG00593-20120317-09401.jpg To make a long story short we struck a deal and John spent all morning with me going over his girl and showing me how to keep her in the same shape he has for the last dozen years or so. My son Sam is about to turn 8 and ready to do some serious Whalering, along with some overnighting. Thanks again John for taking the time to go over everything this morning and for getting her ready to go, I am sure it wasn't easy. Tomorrow morning she hits the Saginaw River for a shakedown cruise. Hope you guys can get out and do the same. Happy Whalerin' Bob |

I am delighted by this news. OUTRE is a wonderful boat. She is beautifully set up and very nicely preserved. I am very pleased that she remains in Michigan and in our beautiful fresh water of the Great Lakes. |

Bob, Congrats on picking up Outré. You now own arguably the nicest 22 Outrage in this community. I am sure John has mixed feelings about seeing her go but, I am sure he is glad it is going to a such a good home. I am glad it all worked out with Alan picking up your Montauk so quick thus allowing you to move on the Whaler of your (and MANY many others) dreams. |

Bob, Although I'm sad to see Kingfish part with Outre I'm Glad to hear you were able to get your hands on her, she is one fine Outrage 22, John did an outstanding job rigging her and I know for sure you'll be carrying on with the outstanding care she has become accustomed to....hopde to see you on the water this summer Pat |

Congratulations. She's the perfect Great Lakes boat for someone with a young kid. You'll have a blast growing up together. She's a dynamite boat camper. Have you thought about the North Channel Cruise this summer? Sam and Emmarie would have a good time getting away from all us "old folks"... Whatever you do, DON'T change her name, that's very bad Karma..... |

Seems like an exciting time to purchase a"new" Whaler. I do remember seeing Mumbler going for sale. What a sweet boat it was. Glad to see you and yours having fun with this new Whaler. Enjoy. |

Thanks everybody, we are pumped. My seven year old woke me at 7am ready to go for a ride today on the Saginaw River. Right now he and my 10 year old daughter are wiping Outré off with towels and getting her ready lol. John and I talked about keeping the name as is and agreed it would be bad karma to change the name, so she will stay as is. He even supplied me with another set of graphics for the side when the time comes to replace the ones that are on there. I would like to do the North Channel Cruise but with a new job I don't know if I will have much vacation time this first year. We are probably going to do Mackinac Island and the inland waterway in the middle of July, along with a possible UP trip somewhere for Labor Day. Well, we are off to the Saginaw River so I can figure out what all the unlabeled buttons and switches do lol. |

Good to see Whalers stay within CL (or WhalerCentral) , it's like passing it to a family cousin or similar. Nice boat too. |

Bob, So, what were your thoughts after the maiden voyage? Any photos? |

Well, since the only other Whaler I have driven is a Montauk it is quite a difference. The Montauk is like a Ferrari and the Outrage is like a diesel pickup. I need to hit some bigger water to really get a feel for her but this is going to take some getting used to. I can see right now I am not going to get much driving time behind the wheel, my son drove more than I did. Both motor ran great and the kids and wife love it. I might go after some walleye this weekend. |

John, tell me you still have the Parker! Congrats Teak Oil. You bought a gentleman's boat with great karma. |

Yeah John is still keeping the Parker, for this year at least. He said they will be using that this summer, and it sounded like that had been his main boat for the two summers prior to this one. We spent so much time going over Outré that I really didn't get much time to talk to him about the Parker. |
