After a long winter in the garage, I launched our 170 Montauk for the season this past weekend. Just before backing down the ramp, the wife says, "Is the plug in?"

I took a quick peek, saw the plug in place, and said, "Yep, she's all set!"

After a 20 minute cruise, I arrive back at our dock, and the wife notices 1/4 inch of water standing inside the hull, near the bilge. The plug was apparently in the drain hole, but not twisted tight, and had popped out as I rode around. No worries with a Whaler! Another boat, and the outcome might have been a bit more interesting. Not sure about other Whaler models, but I'm convinced the Montauk would do just fine with no plug whatsover, if it came down to it.

Still glad to be a Whaler owner, after all these years.

I did the exact same thing the 1st time out this year, no problem at all, turned bilge on and was good to go. Oh yeah I screwed the plug in too. :) 1999 Outrage 17

Plugs? What plugs? Do Whalers even need plugs?

I have forgotten my plugs a few times now and I didn't even notice, lol! In fact, I leave the one out for my fish box all the time and it's great because it keeps flushing clean water into it and removes all the bloody water in there.
