As many of you know six years ago I found myself as a single father of a 5 and 3 year old. We filled our time together boating and have logged a few thousand hours aboard Boston Whaler boats. This year my little girl took the mandated safe boating course here and has been at the helm since. I find it nice as a passenger for a change.
Today all our the time on the water together made me a proud dad. Erin at the helm cruising along was stopped by the Coast Guard, we were boarded. My new Captian told me "I got this" and proceeded to go through the drill flawlessly. I was one proud guy as my crew was called "well seasoned" and Erin was referred to as "Captian" by the servicemen.

My son took the CG Safe Boating Course when he was 12. He ran the boat very little. Just wasn't his thing. I tried to not be disappointed. He graduated from high school a year ago with a 4.75 GPA, goes to University of Central Florida in Orlando and just started working at Disney as a lifeguard.
Sometimes they don't turn out how you want but if you raise them right they turn out OK. Maybe better.

Great picture. Cool kids. That Coast Guard guy looks only about 5 years older than your daughter.

Great story. Congratulations on finding a way to raise your children solo and still log your time on the water. I am impressed that your 11 year old daughter is now operating the boat!

Bravo Zulu to your son, and to you as well.

This stuff will be remembered by them long after you are gone... it's your legacy. Bask in the glory.

Best,

Dave
