Whaler gurus: a guy is selling what he said was a 1976 Montauk 17 with the light blue interior. I haven't received the pictures yet. Is it possible? I thought that 1976 and newer were Desert Tan or white and that pre-1976 were blue inside. Is it right?

Thanks

The last blue hull 17-footer was made in 1972, according to the best data I have (from Boston Whaler). What is your basis for citing 1976?

Jim is right, 1972 was the last year for the Blue interior. Also 1976 was the first year of the Smirk. There were no Smirked hulls with a blue interior

Thanks (and yes I said 1976 cause I thought, wrongly, that they ditch the blue gelcoat when they introduced the smirked hull).

BTW, was there ever a Sakonnet with a "desert tan" interior instead of blue?

Yes, in 1973 you could get a Nauset & Sakonnet with a Desert Tan interior and a Light Grey (Outrage Gray) exterior.

Get the number off the hull. I have an "old blue" and the hull number recognizes the boat as built in 1971 but the PINK SLIP from California DMV has the boat as a 1978!!

I have never tried to fix this because I never intend on selling the boat, and I'm not sure why it happened. I tell you this because there is a chance that the seller may think the boat is a later model year than the hull number indicates.

check them both.
