I am looking at (pictures only so far) a project boat, a 1977 OUTRAGE 21 smooth side. The foward portion of the cap appears to be peeling in small areas. I assume the upper cap has been painted and hence peeling. Having never owned a smooth side, but seen enough at the dock, it is correct to say the upper cap was a standard molded component that started with an gelcoat exterior?

Beneath the peeled painted is a almost grey looking surface. But not epoxy and fiberglass green, or at least looks that way in the pictures. Thanks in advance.

Yes, the upper cap is standard fiberglass with a gel coat exterior. Only the foredeck and anchor locker hatches are cored with wood, otherwise the rest of the cap is solid fiberglass. The anchor locker hatches had non-skid on top.

The original color was probably Desert Tan. A 1973 I run has a white cap with Desert Tan hull, but my 1975 is Desert Tan on both the cap and hull.
