Is that the new MN Safety Services, LLC training boat?

I wish.
That is the National United States Power Squadron Training boat.
In my volunteer world I train for them. This truck and boat are leased to the USPS and it is passed for local squadron to local squadron.

It goes to Green Bay on Wednesday.

The truck is the bad thing for me, it is a loaded 2011, I have a 2006 that was a great truck until I drove this one.

Does it have the Eco-Boost engine? If so, how about a review of the available power?

:)

Be careful with your emergency stopping maneuvers. You don't want to suck any water into that Verado.

To answer Buckda's question.

I drive a 2012 Lincoln MkT with a 3.5L Ecoboost. It is All Wheel Drive. 20" wheels. Every option.

I have never been more impressed with a package.

The power is phenominal. Smooth, effortless and consistant.

The fuel economy is impressive. It averages an honest 23 MPG+. My last trip, from Phoenix to Albuquerque and back averaged 24.6. Most of that at 80 MPH plus. Not bad for such a heavy vehicle with more power than I have ever experienced, even from my old 1970 Buick Gran Sport 455.

Towing my 15' footer around it gets about 18. I don't know it'a back there.

That's really good. And you're right - it is a heavy truck. My 2007 5.4L Triton SuperCrew Lariat 4x4 tops out at 18-19 MPG on the flat highway ... if I can keep it at 68 MPH.

Towing a 17' Classic hull I see 13-15 MPG. And barely 10-11 MPG with the 25' Outrage Cuddy back there.

Nice rig! maybe I'll sell my boat and volunteer too if I get to use those toys!

I purchased a 2011 Ford F150 XLT Supercrew 4X4 with the 3.5L V6 Ecoboost engine last November. It is an impressive vehicle. I've only towed my 1997 Outrage 21 a few times locally but the vehicle handled it well.

I'm not a fan of V6 engines but this one is impressive. The power of this little engine is amazing. The whine of the turbo spooling up while giving it the gas is just cool- I love to listen to this thing run.

The vehicle itself is a very comfortable truck. Ride and handling even when unloaded is very nice. I feel like I'm in a luxury vehicle.

I mostly drive locally- I'm only 2 miles from work. Fuel economy is about 15 miles per gallon on average under those conditions. On a couple long distance trips to Vermont- a mix of highway and rural roads 360 miles I averaged 22 miles per gallon with no load.

General fit and finish is excellent. Ford has really done a great job on their entire vehicle line up.

I think Buckda was asking 6992WHALER if the pickup pictured with the USPS whaler has the EcoBoost engine.

Then A2J15sport responds about his own mid size crossover Lincoln SUV's fuel consumption.

So, 6992Whaler, if that painted up pickup is a Ford, does it have the ecoboost engine, and how does it perform towing that Whaler? Is the boat a 200 Dauntless? If so my 200 Dauntless and trailer weigh about 4500 lbs.

The truck is a 2011 Ford XLT F150 4 x 4.

The boat is a 2011 200 Dauntless.

I do not have a lot of miles on the truck (300) but I have had it on the HWY 70 MPH, around town and empty.

So based on the in truck instant fuel economy graph:
When I first got in the truck the graph said it was getting an average of 8.00 MPG.

I reset the system and I have been getting an average 10.6 MPG even at 70 MPH pulling the trailer.

The empty truck is getting 25 MPG

The truck is very peppy and has more power than it needs to pull this boat. The 6 speed transmission is very impressive. Shift is so smooth you don't even notice the shifts. Running 60 MPH on a very hilly road it held the road speed in 6th most of the time and only dropped to 5th gear on the steepest grades.

I opened the hood to check the fluids and to my surprise it has a 3.5 6 cylinder EcoBoost engine. I assumed it had a V8.

The truck is really smooth, and has very responsive steering. It has a lot of acceleration when empty, more than my 2006 Ford XLT with a 5.4 V8

The interior is nicer as well.

Kevin,
At the moment that maneuver is banned on this boat. I still teach it on any other boat I train on.

"I opened the hood to check the fluids and to my surprise it has a 3.5 6 cylinder EcoBoost engine. I assumed it had a V8."

That's the whole point behind Ford's strategy. "you think it's a V-8." It's better-365 HP at your disposal. Crowd it, the MPG will stink, drive it nicely-impressive.

Todays elecronics make turbocahrging a thing of the future-not past. Hat's off to Ford for Pateneting that technology. The imports are trying but don't quite-"Get it". They can't. Especially Nissan. Toyota won't even try. Not in their DNA. Toyota would rather focus on the average" and staid/duldrums.

As an explanation, My MkT is an AWD "crossover". Half car, half truck. Its still very heavy, 4K#. The MPG figures I stated are no BS.

Cruising at 85 MPH (Arizona)at close to 25 MPG is outstanding. All that with power that will outrun almost anything on the road, except Fords new Police Interceptor. :-0

Dodge Chargers (Hemi) need not apply. Got got you whipped. Try me.

I've already "spanked" a few (non police). The reactions to losing to a Lincoln were-----priceless.

I had a 2013 Flex Limited (Sister to your MKT) with the 3.5 V6 Ecoboost for a weekend a month ago. I do work with Ford and my client lent me theirs to test out. I loved it. What a great vehicle and it surprised me with it's power and economy. Granted, it is not the rocketship that my daily driver Audi S4 is but, that EcoBoost was strong.

I am personally looking forward to selling our 2002 5.3L V8 Tahoe and getting into a Flex AWD Ecoboost here shortly and making it the new tow vehicle. I think a classic 19 / 21 banana hull Outrage or Revenge should good behind it.

Has anyone passed 200,000 miles with one of these EcoBoost engines yet? I am curious about the durability. The specs on paper and initial reports all look great, but I personally wont consider any car or truck to buy with my own money unless I can reasonably expect it to go well past 200k miles before it is no longer economically feasible to operate it due to repairs. I would love to see this new technology be rock solid reliable for Ford.

That was a cool article, and a novel approach to testing and marketing.

However, like one of the comments indicated: I would have liked to see an oil analysis.

The rig left today for Door County. So no more playing for me.

You didn't tear down the engine before it left?

I've been driving an '11 F150 SuperCrew 4X4 with EcoBoost V6 now for 18,000 miles. AWESOME truck- and I've owned a bunch including 2 Tundras, 3 Dodge Rams, 2 Ford F150's, 1 Ford F350 and 2 Chevy Suburbans over the past 16 years.

This truck is BY FAR the smoothest, quietest, most comfortable truck I've ever owned and the power/towing is amazing. We put quite a few highway miles on the truck and with 2 big adults plus 1500 pound payload the truck consistently delivers 22.5-23.5 mpg at 70-75mph with cruise on and A/C. (NOT towing of course!) I believe 24.5-25 is realistic if you were running light and held it to 70mph max.

I recently towed my new 170 Dauntless 200 miles or so and averaged about 15.5mpg at 75mph with A/C.

I cannot recommend this engine/truck highly enough UNLESS you have absolutely gargantuan towing needs of 12,000-15,000 lbs in which case you'd better have a Duramax, Cummins or big Ford diesel for sheer grunt.

The test was interesting and impressive, though not necessarily representative of a real world life for the engine. For example, in the real world you would make many starts and stops, potentially allowing oil to coke on the turbo bearings, etc... those types of things aren't necessarily represented in this test. Also there was a typo; they must have meant 3000 hours on the dyno. To get 150000 miles in 300 hours, they would have to drive 500mph. That would be a whole new level of impressive! ;)

The torque numbers for that engine are very impressive for such a small displacement gas engine. I hope this technology catches on, I am only getting about 17mpg in my 3.4L Tacoma, with no where near the power this thing puts out.

Only 14,500 miles on it, so it is probably to soon to take it apart. I bet the USPS would frown on that as well.

I have a real craving to trade my truck in and get one of these.
It is a really nice piece of equipment. If it gets 25 MPG it might solve the problem of needing a tuck to tow the boat but hating to pay the gas bill of the truck being your daily driver.

The boat was fun to run as well, I was surprised how dry it was. I had it in some windy conditions with a little chop and it kept the passengers dry.

The trailer had to go into the shop, two disc brake calipers leaking one dragging and one bearing in the process of failing.

14,000 miles on the truck in a year and a half is nothing but that same mileage on this trailer is a lot. That is about 10 times the number of miles my trailer sees in a year. It is used in both salt water and fresh water.
