My old Johnson just wasn't good enough for this 25-year-old. Here are some pics of a new E-TEC 150 on my 1988 Outrage 18; it replaced the original 1988 Johnson. I'm sure many of you want to know how it performs--so do I! Unfortunately I won't be able to report on that until we return to the area for the summer and put her in.

The new rig looks great. I see you have ICON gauges and ICON electronic controls. They are both really nice additions to the E-TEC.

One caution for your first run on the water: when you pull back the throttle of a computer-controlled direct-injection engine, the engine speed drops very rapidly, especially compared to the way an older carburetor two-stroke-cycle engine would have behaved. You will soon become accustomed to the throttle response, but watch out for that first time you yank the throttle back, or you may go right through the windshield.

Great looking 18 Outrage. Looks like it belongs there. Your old Johnson looks a bit sad there on the side. So many years of service.

I see you have a Turbo Swing on your boat. Thats been a big hit on ours.

Good luck and keep us posted

Your craigslist ad says one of the cylinders on your "old Johnson" is around 65 psi and needs a new tilt/trim motor. Gonna guess that if your brand new motor was was suffering the same maladies, it wouldn't be good enough either.

Anyone want to help explain to Peter the humor behind that quote?

Maybe this will help: I sure am going to miss being able to tell people I have a big Johnson!

you will be very happy with that set up, as Jim said, beware, that hole shot is a screamer

Very true words! I still am trying to get used to how quickly the E-TEC responds in either direction. The throttle response is instantaneous. I guess I didn't realize there was that much "lag" in the older carbureted engines.

For me, this new engine has changed the entire boating experience: for the better, I should add.

I just looked again and noticed your guages on your dash along with your fly by wire, throttle control.

NICE looking guages! Very modern, yet a bit retro with the chrome bezels. They fit the look of a classic better than anything else I have seen thats new.

Great job
