Hope this isn't related to Whalers, anyway whatever the boat is one has to wonder what the guy was doing ..he must have been in open ocean waters to nail the fish. http://news.ninemsn.com.au/world/2013/07/22/13/42/fisherman-needs-rescuing-after-monster-tuna-flips-boat |

Being from Hawaii, I know this area well. It can be calm in the mornings, and get choppy in the afternoons. That being said, the guy was in a 14' Livingston. That is certainly not a boat anyone with half a brain would take out in the deep blue and hunt down ahi. Buddy, sell the ahi and use the proceeds to help fund a larger craft! Aloha |

Here's a link to the local news story for those interested: http://www.khon2.com/2013/07/20/15005-autosave/ No Whaler content but interesting nonetheless. Fishing alone on a 14' Livingston in the middle of the Pacific? At least he had enough sense to have a safety line on or that yellowfin tuna would've drowned him. And good thing the boat stayed afloat - sort of. |

Fishing 14 miles out on the ocean in a 14 foot boat; I often wonder whether some of these people are confident in their boating competence or just plain crazy in their water craft. Glad he came home safe, and they still got his boat and equipment home too. Even though he let the other two fishermen that came to save his equipment and finish landing that "buggah" keep the ahi (a class move in my opinion) - I hope he and his family got to savor a nice piece of the one that almost made a "keeper" out of him! |
