My wife and I are considering the next Miami boat show. We have never been and newbies to this. I want very much to see the bigger Whalers in their booth and hopefully on the water. We will never get those to see here in Utah so here we go. Any tips from you experienced boat showers? We would also like to spend a couple of nights down in the Keys. Somewhere near Islamorada. Any recommendations of a place to stay for my wife and I as far as hotel to stay, a few places to eat and a few must do , must see activities in the Keys? Thanks for any input Sterling Onlyawhaler

You might consider paying the extra admission fee to go on the show's first day, usually a Thursday. That day is generaly only media and industry people, a few VIP's, and the public that want to pay the extra cost to get in on day-one. The advantage is the floor is not as crowded, and generally all the big-wigs from every exhibitor are manning their booths that day. If you go the last day, the admission is less, the crowds are larger, and some of the exhibitors' main people have left already, as four days on the show floor is too much for anyone. Both times I have gone to the show I went on the first day. It was a lot of fun. You can bump into a lot of people that way. |

A really nice place to stay in Islamorada is the Cheeca Lodge, directly on the Atlantic. Highly recommended, unless you are a Democrat, since the President Bush family has vacationed there for years! And Cheeca has the photos on the walls to prove it.Across the highway are two nice restaurants, one high end and one more casual, but their name escapes me. Something like "Morada ----". Down the road a little is the Bass Pro Shop Outdoor Adventure World, worth seeing, with the original Islamorada Fish restaurant on the waterfront and the sister ship to Hemingway's "Pilar". The locals would probably call these places "tourist traps", but after all, when I am there, I am a tourist. |

Don't forget that the FLL Boat Show is coming up this weekend. I have always went to the MIA show and just wanted to see the difference this year so I will probably skip the MIA show and head out to FLL.Anyone heading out that a way......... Fred |
