Today is another good veteran's day. Today, I have dinner with other vet-friends - a good day. And my thanks and well-wishes for all the vets.

Remember guys/gals - Applebees gives free dinners to all vets - and as I understand, this is standard for all Applebees across the country. Visit Applebees - good food and a very good recognition of the vets. --- Jerry/Idaho

It was raining hard here yesterday.
So that the tears of many a veteran could have been confused with the beating rain.
The flag was hoisted the bugle sounded
Two minutes of silence were observed by all wearing poppies.
In respect I did wear my sunburned beret all day yesterday.
And had some thoughts about my two uncles that fell on the beaches of Dieppe.
We live in a privileged society in relative peace and security.
Thanks to all of those who make this a reality today.

I spent the day with my brother on my Whaler for our annual Veterans Day fishing trip in Boston Harbor. My oldest brother who is also a Veteran could not make it, so it was just the two of us this year.

This trip has been our tradition for many years. Veterans Day is typically the date I pull the Whaler out of the water. I was expecting an especially cold trip as the weather forecast was calling for a blustery day. We look forward to this final trip on the boat every year and were not going to be deterred by a little cold & wind. Thankfully the weathermen were wrong. When we arrived at the ramap it was clear, there was a light breeze and the temperature was in the low 50's. It was an absolutely beautiful day.

We launched out of Winthrop and motored out around all of the old forts in the harbor on our way out to Graves Light. In keeping with tradition, we didn't catch any fish during this trip. Maybe that will change next year.

We ended the day with a cookout on the beach in front of Fort Andrews on Peddocks Island and raised a beer to all the Veterans that served our country and to all the guys that were stationed out on these many Island fortifications.

I hope the rest of you guys had an enjoyable Veterans Day.

I checked off the inner Boston Harbor whaler cruise this year in the Montauk. It's the ideal boat for getting under the Fort Point Channel bridges and the no wake zone means no swamping issues.

Next year my goal is to tow the Conquest up from the Cape and launch out of Weymouth to tour the Harbor Islands in the Outer Harbor.

A good novel set in these islands is "Shutter Island",by Dennis Lehane. There is also a Leonardo DiCaprio movie by the same name.
