According to a local boating magazine Honda is upgrading the BF75 and BF90 4-stroke 4-cylinder outboards for next year (2014) to become the BF80 and the BF100.

The web page marine.honda.com does not currently confirm this change, but it would seem likely this change is to be be rolled out in all markets in due time.

It has been noted in the past that certain outboard engines were rated as 100-HP in Europe and as 90-HP in the USA. Might this same approach to power rating be used in these new Honda outboard engines?

In Europe, Yamaha's F75 and F90 4-cylinder 4-strokes are designated as F80 and F100, respectively. Suzuki also offers a DF80 and DF100 which are not offered here. Apparently, 80 and 100 HP designations are typical for Europe. Doubt that the new offerings are anything more than a decal change to align with Yamaha's and Suzuki's European offerings. With only 1.5L displacement the BF100 I don't think the Honda would be competitive with 90 HP outboards offered by others. In other words, you'd be paying for 10 HP that you aren't actually getting as compared to the competition's 90s.
