Two young fisherman were fishing off the northern cost of Puerto Rico (Arecibo) last week going after Mahi-Mahi and what they reeled in exceeded there wildest expectations. I would dare say that they started off the new year with a bang!

While trolling approximately 21 miles offshore in a current they came upon a practicality brand new 22' Boston Whaler with a 200 or 225 Mercury engine. Nobody was on board or even nearby. The plugs had been pulled (it was suspected that the boat had been stolen and someone tried to sink it, good luck with that). It did not even have a registration number.

The boat was towed by these two gentlemen to shore and reported to the Coast Guard and the local police. No drugs were found on board and the police advised the pair that there is a waiting period involved before they can claim the boat.

No report of a stolen Whaler was reported at least on the northern shores of the island. Some people were commenting that the boat could have been from the Dominican Republic.

Now that's what I call a good day of fishing and to think I was out there a week before fishing that same current......

Somebody should call the Whaler historian with the serial
number. That will track it to a dealer.

Wow. A 22 foot Mahi Mahi ! The biggest one I've ever caught is only a few pounds, and definitely sinkable.
