Hi Fred, I've thought about this in the past for my Montauk (and now Outrage 18), and my first attempt would be to use the foam blocks sold as roof-top carriers for cars. I was thinking about placing them on the gunwale of the big boat, possibly slitting them to attach to the railing stanchions. The kayak would then be placed in its side, with the topside/cockpit inward. I'd then use 1" straps to secure it to the railing.I've never tried it, but that was how I was planning to start. I'd be interested in hearing what works for you. Thanks. Dennis

Depending on your kayak size, that could be a lot of weight on your rails if you use them to tie off the yak, even to the point of ripping the mounting screws out of your hull if you get to bouncing in rough water.I just load mine sitting on the deck on either side of the center console. It does make it inconvienent to move fore and aft but it does keep your center of gravity low. |

Garhauer make a very nice stantion mounted rack. I've got a set and they work great. Cost about $130. |

Check setups for duck hunters. They are quite common in Louisiana, mostly used for pirogues, but would work well for kayaks as long as they're not too heavy. |
