http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/boa/4318393794.html Never seen this 2008 Model. Didn't think they made a sport in 2008. The posting says it's a Guardian commercial series. |

http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/boa/4318393794.html Yes, that is a Commercial Products (Brunswick CGP) boat. It may have been called an ALERT or UTILITY http://www.brunswickcgp.com/Page.aspx/pmId/317682/pageId/154950/view/ Overview/17-Guardian.aspx |

Interesting set of options on that link in regards to motor choices. Evinrude, Honda, Mercury, Yamaha. I guess the commercial division is not tied to Mercury. |

More that they know that they aren't dealing with a captive and generally less discriminating recreational market, and that if an agency has studied and selected a particular engine, and a hull manufacturer doesn't offer it, that hull manufacturer isn't going to have its bids processed by the Contract Officer. If you want to sell things, you need to offer what the buyer wants to buy. They might be able to stuff Mercury products down the throat of the recreational boaters, but when it comes to government contract they know that the buyers get what they want and don't buy what they don't want. It's all about the bottom line.

I was at the Commercial Workboat Show in New Orleans a couple years back, and spoke with the Brunswick Commercial Product guys. They had a big gray 32 commercial Whaler there with Verados with all the law enforcement goodies. When I asked about power options other than Merc, they said that it was no problem. In fact, one guy told me that they get better technical support by BRP and Yamaha, than they do their own Mercury division when it comes to motor aquisition and rigging their boats. I suppose its like getting better treament from an outside vendor (eager to do business) that it is by getting it from a sibling division in your own corporate family. The outside vendor has more of an invested interest to promote his product. |

Thought it was interesting to see a 90 etec as the engine of choice on the BW commercial division website for the 17 Montauk. Sure fits the hull well. Says something about something... ;-0 Dave . |
