I'm looking into a trailer to fit a Boston Whaler 21 Walkaround. From reading a few threads on this topic over the years, it seems to be a hard boat to fit properly. What exactly is the issue? I would prefer to find a used trailer if possible and it sounds as if it will likely not fit as is. How would I fix it so that it can, and is it expensive to have these adjustments made.
Lets just say I found a tandem bunk trailer in range to fit, would it be impossible for me to load it up as is? Could I not just tow it back and then make the adjustments or are we talking about custom work being done well before I pick up the boat. The boat currently does not have any trailer whatsoever.

Martyn--I don't own a 21 Walkaround, but I have several friends that do own or have owned a 21 Walkaround. I have watched them launching and loading a 21 Walkaround from a trailer, as well as the sister-ship, the 23 Walkaround. I have observed that a problem inherent in the 21 Walkaround and launching or loading from a trailer is the arrangement of the bow and bow pulpit relative to the bow eye. In lauching or loading I have seen that the bow pulpit tends to drop and strike the trailer winch stand, unless some special allowances and arrangements of the winch stand and keel rollers have been made to inhibit that drop.

Jim I see so it's the design of the extender to the bow eye and not a problem with a trailer. I guess one could blame the trailer for not fitting but it's more the boat design that is the problem. Having custom work done to a trailer sounds a bit expensive. A new trailer easier but still expensive.

The problem Jim describes is not unique to the 21' Walkaround. All the large Whalers with bow pulpits have this happen including my own Revenge 25 WalkThrough.
All that needs to be one is to add a keel roller and the aft end of the tongue. This roller supports the bow until the boat is backed off the trailer enough to drop without the pulpit hitting the winch stand.

Adding one 5" keel roller on an adjustable bracket to the cross member that ties the tongue to the frame rails will solve this problem and cost less than $50.

The problem is not unique; it exists on my boat, too. And I have a keel roller at the bow. And it fixes the problem.
But what accentuates the problem in the 21 WALKAROUND is the bow stem angle is more rakish, and the bow eye is really quite far from the bow pulpit as a result.
