posted 03-04-2014 10:36 AM ET (US) I have heard that using the paint additive Penetrol is a good, quick way to restore fiberglass. Has anyone tried it?
The instructions say to wipe on, buff off within 3 to 5 minutes and the fiberglass/gelcoat will be "restored". Sounds too easy to me.

Yes, it really works, in that the gel coat will look very nice.
The Penetrol will tend to fade in a year or two so the process needs to be repeated.
It is not, however, the same as wet sanding and buffing gel coat to remove the layer of faded gelcoat

Penetrol also works wonders on brown RPS legs.

Does Penetrol have protective capabilities as well, i.e. from UV rays, or is it cosmetic only?
