Thanks for the pointer to an interesting maritime casualty report. I have to confess I am always fascinated by the topic of towing. In that regard, have you read the works of a wonderful Canadian author, Farley Mowat? THE GREY SEAS UNDER and SERPENT'S COIL I have read both of them and they're on the shelves of my boating bookcase, as I have re-read them at least once. |

I second the recommendation of Grey Seas Under! I read it for the first time when I was 11-12 years old. Great, now I've got to go buy another copy. A snippet about another of Mowats books: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Discovery_of_America |

Farley was a favorite author and read extensively by me while my life's works involved being soaked, cold and aching while I was wearing Mustang gear and cork boots. These days were mostly grey and overcast with rain. While in these chapters, I do clearly remember of this specific winter season in the early seventies were my hands bled each and everyday from work on the boom from boat repairs and bag cutting in and shortening of the alleys. I do recall of the rainy skies giving it up to us for more than a hundred days which had me wondering as to "When is this weather was going to smarten up and get pleasant again?" Yes, Farley Mowat is a part of a well lived in and remembered past. Thanks to Jim to bring it back to my attention. |
