I went to the Long Beach boat show and got to check out the 210 Montauk. I loved this boat! It felt so huge inside! The square bow made the front feel like a catamaran.

Being a dreamer, I started to "build" this boat on the Brunswick Commercial Products website. To my surprise, the engine options included all brands! So I guess now, you can have a new Whaler with a choice of engines. Yes, I know that BCP boats are not for private sales but I hear that a good dealer can set you up with one.

Now I just gotta make my first million and buy the boat.

Does the website you mention include pricing data for the custom builds?

No Jim, I could not find any pricing. There were checkboxes next to Honda, Yamaha... and a little note in parenthesis that said something like, "contact to identify optimal engine size".

Wow, I had no idea there was a "choice" at all
Very positive!

Don't get too excited. remember this is the Commercial Products Division where one can specify machine gun mounts and stuff. Hulls are constructed differently and I doubt hull prices are the same.

You are correct, JimL, the hulls are heavier and surely more expensive. And there are a lot of cool options - useful ones too (for recreational boaters). If I was in a position to buy, I could probably purchase one on behalf of our nonprofit organization (Anacapa Marine Research Institute).

One of the largest differences which is not a option between the commercial and recreational version is the way they have molded the stern and transom. Take a close look at the transom and you will find the ability to run twins on the commercial hull vs only a single for the recreational model.

Yep! Twins, dive door, recessed tie downs, t-top enclosure and many, many more options.

Engine choices and gun mounts?

This is what all Whalers should have on the option list.
Can't get better than this!

Obviously I need to find a new "Whaler Dealer"

I priced a 25' Commercial hull and trailer last week. The hull comes standard with gray gelcoat. With the optional aluminum console, bottom paint and heavy duty aluminum trailer it comes in at about $50,000. Add a couple of Mercury 150 FourStroke engine and a bunch of electronics and it's near $100,000. Sure hope I win the lottery soon.

How does that compare to a "standard" boat?

The 210 Montauk..
Lovely boat for sure.
The lay out and Classic like design is a true effort from the "Big Guys" to get us all Classic Owners back on the new owner's list.
Got to love the pride the the Whaler Manufacturer still has in the name.
Thanks for the 210 Guys,
It is truly an Ideal boat.

I've been on a bunch of new boats lately (at boat shows) but felt "at home" on only the 210 Montauk. Some of the boats I've been crawling around on - Robalos (180,200,220), Parkers, Grady White (209 Fisherman), Defiance, Whalers (Dauntless and Outrage).

It felt like twice my (Dauntless 15) boat! I'll keep saving with the goal of moving up in five or so years.

The Commercial 25 ft hull is the same basic hull as the late 1980's 25 ft hull except it has a 30" transom. It has extra layup and can be had with many options such as removable door for diving or recovering bodies, skid plates.towing posts, crash bars etc. You have to be a Government agency or Foreign Government to order gun mounts and sirens etc. You can order custom colors.
The minimum hp is 200 as that is the smallest 30" engine that I know of. You can check out the Brunswick Boston Whaler site to see over 40 photo's of the different 25's available.

How does it compare price-wise?

The Commercial 25' is not made in the regular lineup. I guess you could compare it to the 24 or 26' Outrage pricewise. How much do they go for?

Fort Eustis Newport News, Va. used to have old military Whalers for sale. Great project boats.

Careful about calling a Whaler "Standard". There used to be
a recreational model called the "Standard" The 17' version
was a 17' Montauk hull without the console and setup for
tiller steer. My "Montauk" is actually a Standard with the
console, rails, and other rigging off a wrecked Montauk.
