| Author | Topic: Installed New E-TEC with Graphite Paint Scheme |
| Teak Oil |
I had my new E-TEC installed yesterday at Lockeman's. I thought I would share some pics for you guys that might be thinking about going with the new graphite color offered by Evinrude this year. I never cared for the way my white outboard went with my Yamaha kicker, so I decided to go on a limb and give it a try. Overall I am pretty happy, as usual Lockeman's did a great job. |

That's one GREAT looking outboard. Seems like that graphic gray gives it a bigger bolder look. I like it! Congratulations on a great engine Sterling |

Thanks Sterling. You can only see it close up, but there is some Evinrude blue flake in the paint as well that comes out in the sun. Its going to be a long couple of weeks waiting for the river to clear out |

Looks Great Bob, and glad to see you went with a 300 on that 22 Hull. |

That's a 22?! I thought it was a 25. Looks great. Probably gonna be fast. I hope the engine is mounted three holes up. |
| Jeff |
Yes Tom, that is John Flook's old 22 Outrage Outré. Bob bought it 2 years ago now. |
| Tom W Clark |
When John owned Outré he was able to hit 53 MPH (well, before the RADAR arch) with that old Evinrude 225. With 300 HP, it ought to be good for 57-58 MPH! That's going to require a 22" pitch prop. |
| Teak Oil |
The old 225 hit about 47-48 on a good day with a normal load, and Lockeman's checked the compression when they took it off and it was between 95 and 100-PSI on all six cylinders--it was in pretty good shape. I would like to see 55-MPH with a normal load, though top speed is not my goal. I agree with Larry Goltz on one thing, and that is to get as much power for a given weight outboard that is available and then just loaf along and have the reserve power when you want it. Tom I had the motor mounted all the way up, as I ran the old 225 at this height and it ran pretty good there with no ventilation. I agree I will probably need a 22-pitch blade propeller; there is a 21 Viper on it right now. It is the only test propeller Lockeman's had on hand close to what I needed. I had no problem turning a 20 Raker with my old motor over 5,500-RPM. Since I get a BRP propeller with the motor, I am thinking either a Cyclone or Rebel 22 would be good for cruising economy. For fun I think I am going to get a non-BRP propeller, most likely a 22 Enertia. I would appreciate your thoughts on this. Thanks Bob |

Wow--a 300-HP E-TEC. That should be noticeably faster than the old 225-HP OMC carburetor engine. It looks good, too. I think your plan to harmonize the gray and blue is a good one. |

Very nice and good looking. I'm probably wrong due to the perspective but that 300 looks no larger than the 135 HP Verado on my 190 Montauk. Butch |

Bob -- That's a good topic for discussion in the Performance area |
| Peter |
That graphite color looks good. I'm not sure how the physical size stacks up against the Verado 135 but the weight of the Evinrude E-TEC 300 is within 3 lbs of the Verado 135. I'm predicting that with the right prop, a 55 MPH WOT is achievable. Bob will likely be delighted by not only the power but how much LESS gas and oil that motor will use in a day's outing if he's not running the boat at 55 MPH because he's developed a need for speed. |
| Teak Oil |
The larger cowling does give the impression that the motor is larger, even if my brain knows that the block is the same size and the length is the same. The sound deadening material make the outboard slightly wider but I do not believe there will be any [problems as a result of this wider witdth] with the kicker. The Magnum gearcase seems longer and more streamlined than the old case. I will be spending the next few days programming the ICON gauge while it snows outside |

I should have recognized OUTRE right away from the pictures. There are several signature features: --the unique mounting of the trim tabs. --the steering wheel dressed with a woven rope --the dual throttle controls for the main and auxiliary. For some more background on this boat, see Mounting a Yamaha T8 Four-Stroke Kicker Trim Tab Installation |

It's a good color. If it were mine, I'd order a new set of Yamaha decals and paint the kicker to match. I've got an OX66 250hp and a Yamaha 8hp on my 22' Cuddy and will be watching closely for your performance numbers and prop selection. Thanks for sharing and keep us posted. Chris |
| Teak Oil |
Chris the OX66 250 is supposed to be a strong motor. My arch causes a lot of wind drag so our numbers will be closer than one would think. Once I get her wet I will start a thread in the performance forum. |
| Tom W Clark |
Bob -- Why not start a performance thread now? I'd like to make some predictions. |

I think John does most of his boating these days in a Parker. |
| Teak Oil |
Yeah I talk to John on Facebook sometimes and he still has his Parker and Montauk to my knowledge and still has his place in the North Channel. Sounds like he is enjoying retirement |
| ledfoot |
Wow, that looks great! |

Looks great, I'm anxious to hear how it performs. |
