The latest Federal proposal is for a zero day recreational season in 2014. The commercial season remains. The rationale for the non-season for recreational anglers is that they vastly exceeded their quota in 2013 according to regulators. This adjustment was supposedly driven by a Federal Court decision following a suit filed jointly by environmental interests and the commercial fisheries lobby.
It won't bother me but the charter fishing business in Alabama will take a huge hit. Red Snapper is probably the most sought after fish off the Alabama coast during the season. They tend to be large, easily caught and are delicious. My preference is to grill them.

The amount of red snapper of the Alabama coast is incredible. This rule is insane.
