FYI, the Yamaha outboards being a popular repower choice, you may find useful to know that there's a safety recall campaign for F4 to F70 outboards manufactured after April 1st 2011 to replace the fuel connector and hose assembly that may leak: http://www.yamahaoutboards.com/sites/default/files/modifications/ O2013-007R.pdf |

Saumon--many thanks for posting this information. In the three years since April 2011, I think some readers here may have purchased some of the outboard engines affected by this notice, as the Yamaha F70 is a popular model. |

This recall seems to be nearly a year old, I found the following page which denotes the serial number range affected for each model: http://www.yamahaoutboards.com/owner-resources/ factory-modification-campaign Having recently purchased my F70 I was concerned, but my outboard it is outside the affected range being manufactured after the recall. I was curious to see if other outboard manufacturers post recall information on their website like Yamaha in order for their owners to quickly determine if their outboard is affected. I was able to find a similar website on Evinrudes website: http://www.evinrude.com/en-US/Owners-Center/Recall-Information Interestingly there is a recall for the E-TEC 60 also about a year old that may be of interest to owners of that outboard. Honda also has a website listing outboard recalls: http://marine.honda.com/owners/recalls I was unable to find a equivalent for Mercury or Suzuki. |

Yamaha came out with a new fuel connector design a couple of model years ago. I sold a new Yahama (via a local dealer relationship I have) and I was impressed with the new connector Yamaha was using....it was very easy to connect and disconnect. But it seems, that the new connector has a tendency to leak....bummer. I see the same issues with the latest plastic fuel tanks by various oem's.....if you close up the tank vent and the tank sits out in the sun...beware, the tank will probably leak out somewhere under the pressure. Nobody seems to have a solution to this issue. So, my recommendation is to fill you tank leaving some compacity for expansion AND leave your tank cap loose so that pressure can escape. This is going to be an ongoing issue with portable tanks. I really don't know how it is going to be solved. |

Isn't the tank expansion due to air in the tank rather than fuel? I have a couple of 5 gallon vent-less fuel containers with the absolutely horrible press to dispense spouts after you twist the unlocking mechanism. These containers have no vent and so if they are anything less than full they either contract or expand depending on the temperature. If they are very empty, they will contract or expand to the point of severe deformation. If they are full, none of that happens. |

This recently announced recall is the 2nd one for the fuel fittings on engines that have the front mounted fuel hose quick disconnects. The first recall replaced the round style connector, fuel hose assy, and any portable fuel tank that has the round style connector. The very recent recall is because they have found the fitting on the tank only on the new style connector(actually old style looking Yamaha connector) has been found to leak as well. If the engine has been updated with the new style engine connector, that end is fine and not replaced. This new recall is just for the tank end only. The actual fitting on the tank is replaced, then tested with a air pump. I hate the new pressurized tanks. |
